How did you attract/address your audience?
The main technique I used to attract my audience was the word choice in my product. I made it very informal and chatty to
create a bigger connection to the younger audience and used terms and ‘slang’ used by teenagers today. I feel this also
created a very laid back attitude towards the reader, no articles were too shocking or contained anything too explicit to
create a sense of light heartedness, which I aimed to keep going throughout my magazine. Making my product address
the audience in a non superior way as compared to other articles aimed at an older audience helped attract my audience.
By talking to my audience and involving them rather than talking at them I feel this created a closer relationship with the
reader.
I tried to reflect the light-hearted and chatty theme by also using bright colours on my pages. I feel this overall attracted my
audience more by catching their eye with unusual colours. Usually magazines are typically aimed more at one gender
more than the other, the greens used on the cover and the female model creates what I think is curiosity as to what my
product will contain, as stereotypically female models are usually on covers containing pink.
Using well known artists on my cover to encourage my audience to buy the magazine is a technique I have used to attract
my audience,
from seeing the cover and the artist on the cover, I expect my audience would also be interested in the other artists
featured on my cover as they are typically in the UK Charts regularly and are actively releasing new singles and albums.
The image type I have used on my cover to address my audience is a simple mid shot with a smiling model. I feel that this
addresses my audience in a more personal way due to the simplicity of the shot. The eye contact with the artist on the
cover conveys a very personal connection rather than the associated arrogance of someone who is facing away.
