Evaluation Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback? Documentary audience feedback: To gain audience feedback we decided to show our documentary to a few students who were all around 17/18 years old as these were our main target audience. After showing them our documentary we held a general focus group with them asking them questions related to the documentary such as: Does the first 5 minutes of the documentary make you want to watch the whole documentary?, Do you think the sound levels were consistent? and what stood out the most to you in the documentary? To the first two questions everyone answered “yes”. To the third question they said: The expert interviews and the on screen presenter.

Evaluation Question 3:

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Documentary audience feedback:

To gain audience feedback we decided to show our documentary to a few students who were all around 17/18 years old as these were our main target audience.

Overall we got positive feedback from our focus group. We then asked a further 10 students also around the age of 17/18 to watch our documentary and fill out a questionnaire with multiple choice answers that they could circle the answer of their choice. One

of the questions we asked was: Did you find the documentary was informative on the topic of beauty?

We asked if they thought our documentary was informative on the topic of beauty to which all 10 people answered strongly agree. This showed us that people who will watch the documentary will find the documentary relevantly informative which was an aim we focused on the most. It was important for us to make sure the information we gave was presented to the target audience in an interesting and entertaining manner. As these teenagers felt that the documentary was informative shows us that our target audience would find our documentary appealing.

Strongly AgreeAgreeDisagreeStrongly disagree

Another question we asked during this questionnaire was: Did the fluidity of the editing make it easy to watch and follow the documentary?

When we asked this question we found that 5 people strongly agreed, 4 agreed and 1 disagreed. This showed us that although the editing was good there was still room for improvement as a few people only agreed and 1 person also disagreed. Therefore we now know that we could’ve improved our editing and maybe put the content of our documentary in a different order to make it slightly easier for the audience to follow our documentary.

Radio Trailer audience feedback:

For our radio trailer feedback we decided to show 3 teenagers around the age of 17/18 our radio trailer. After they had listened to the radio trailer we held a focus group in which we asked them a few questions about our radio trailer. One of the questions we asked was: Were the sound levels in the radio trailer clear? Too which everyone answered “yes they were generally fine but the vox pops could have been clearer.” We were not surprised by this outcome as we did try to increase the sound levels of the vox pops via the audio gain tool however even though we increased it to the maximum they still weren’t as clear as the rest of the radio trailer. This meant that we should’ve recorded the vox pops in a quieter place to prevent the background sound affecting the vox pops.

We also asked: Was the information given in the trailer relevant to the topic?

All 3 of the people said yes which showed us that all of our information we gave across was relevant. It also shows us that

people would find our documentary informative on the topic of beauty as we have included information in an interesting and entertaining manner. As people found our radio trailer informative this already makes them more likely to find our documentary informative and interesting.

Listings magazine feedback:

To gain audience feedback on our listings magazine we printed off a colour copy of our double page spread a questionnaire. We then gave 16-18 year old’s our questionnaires which they were able to fill out whilst looking at our double page spread. We asked this age group as they are our potential target audience and will be the age group most likely to view our documentary.

One of the questions we asked was: Are the different fonts in the title clear for the reader?

Everyone we asked answered yes to this question. We were expecting this as we ourselves made sure whilst creating the title that nothing was affecting the clarity of the title. We wanted to make sure that the title was one of the main focuses of our double page spread as it was promoting our documentary name. Therefore now that we can ensure the title is clear due to our audience feedback we know that this will increase viewers of our documentary as it clearly promotes our documentary in a stylistic manner.

We also asked: What stands out to you the most?

As this was an open question we had a variety of answers from our audience. Most people said the picture as in the main image stood out the most. We expected this to be the case as we made the main image as the background of our whole double page spread to make it stand out to the audience. However other elements of our documentary were also mentioned by the teenagers we asked such as: quotes, the colour, the word pressure, the time and date, and the title. This showed us that many parts of our listings magazine appealed to our target audience and this would not only make them want to read our double page spread but will also make them want to watch our documentary.

Overall I feel we made use of a range of different ways in order to gain our audience feedback. We specifically only asked our target audience as we wanted to see their views on all three of
