Evaluation Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Ideal Reader’s

• Our ideal readers gave us qualitative feedback on what they wanted to see from our products. For example, they both agreed that they wanted to see an exploration into real social issues, as they both felt this was an important convention in the social realist genre. Ideal Reader 2 stated our storyboard seemed to follow this wish, therefore she believed there wasn’t much we need to improve upon.

Questionnaire’s

• During our research and planning we conducted a questionnaire to gain some quantitative information from our audience. This questionnaire allowed us to gain feedback from the audience on what they wanted before we began planning our trailer.

• One important question we ask them was how long do you think a trailer should be until you get bored? Majority of our audience asked a minute and half and the rest answered a minute. This meant when we were planning our trailer we stuck to between these times, as our trailer is a teaser trailer we wanted to aim closer to a minute rather than a minute and half, as we felt a minute and half may be too long for a teaser trailer.

• We also asked our audience whether they would prefer a film relevant to modern social issues or past social issues as well as giving them a list of strong social issues to determine which they would most like to be explored. Majority of our audience stated they wanted a more modern setting therefore we set our film in 2007, to co-inside we the issue of gang culture and the poverty and racism surrounding it, as these were some of the most popular social issues to explore.

Focus Group

• We conducted a focus group to give us qualitative feedback on our draft posters, magazine front covers and trailer storyboard. This allowed us to establish that they were happy with the products as well as informing us on what they thought we should improve upon.

• Both members of the focus group seemed happy with the products, stating that they believed the trailer created enough tension and that all three had a sense of disequilibrium which made them want to watch the film.

• This focus group also allowed us to establish our institutional logo, as we had both created one and we asked the audience in our focus group which one they preferred.

Social Media Feedback

• Social media qualitative feedback on my draft poster and magazine front cover again allowed me to establish that the audience was generally happy with the products I have created, but also allowed me to see some improvements they thought I could make for my final products.• They suggested that I change some of the house-style as they felt

some of the colours used for the text made it difficult to read the text. They also suggested I change the font used for the cover lines on the magazine to signify that they weren’t part of the Brixton article.

Draft Trailer Feedback• Qualitative feedback on my draft trailer allowed us to once again know any

improvements our audience had for our trailer, but also allowed us to see what things they liked and wanted us to include/combine from both our draft trailers.• From this qualitative feedback we learnt that now seeing what our storyboard

actually looked like in video form they weren’t happy with some of the ordering of shots within the trailer this allowed us to adjust this in our final trailer. • As well as this they stated that they wanted the voice-over radio clip to be

longer as they felt we could include some more important information about the raise in teenage crime, highlighting the significance of this social issue.• One member of our audience also suggested the idea that we add in news or

CCTV footage from something like the London Riots to highlight the fact that this is a real social issue. This would adhere further to the social realist conventions as they explore real social issues.

Final Trailer Feedback

• We asked our audience for feedback on our final trailer to make sure that they liked what was included and didn’t feel as if anything was missing• This allowed us to be confident that our audience was happy with the

product and be encouraged to watch the full film after watching this trailer• However, it also meant that the audience could share anything they

didn’t like about the trailer or anything they thought it missed so we are aware if we have to do a similar project again
