HOW MY DIGI-PACK USED, DEVELOPED AND CHALLENGED CONVENTIONS THROUGH THE LAYOUT AND FONT

• My digi-pack used conventions of a music video through the layout and design through there being eye catching colours. Our artist is synthetic however we were promoting our album through our hit single, which included the majority of the video to show our narrative which included a superhero. This therefore was shown through the digi-pack through the ‘comic’ style portrayed in the image of our artist and the image on the back of our superhero. I represented our star image through the font aswell, I gathered inspiration through the one direction cover, choosing a similar font, we therefore used the conventions in these two areas.

COLOURS

• Our colours were used as they represented the star image and the colours dominant in the music video. The colour of the font at the front was used so that it would be clear, and that it wouldn't’t contrast with the rest of the image and draw attention away. We felt it was busy enough without having a different colour used for every font, white was perfect for the name as it was simple and dominant in contrast to the coloured/comical picture.

Composition and positioning of the artist in the frame

The artists in the similar album covers are positioned in the focus point of the image, they are shown so the attention is drawn to them, the artists name isn't the main focus, they are synthetic so their image is more important which explains the composition and where in the cover they are shown. The reason we decided to place him on the edge was due to the picture, it looked best on the side because he was on his own and in the middle it would have looked strange with so much black space either side of him. We represented our start image with the big picture of him, and nothing covering him or drawing attention away.

Mise-en-scene to explain artists generic influences, target audience and star image

• The lack of anything around our artist means the that we wanted the target audience to focus on our artist on the cover and not anything around it. We developed the convention of a synthetic album cover in this instance where the artist is the main focus in the cover with little around it apart from the album name and the artist name.
