Evaluation: Question 1

In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

Use: I used the three colour rule and similar font types to the ATM magazine. This is shown through the compressed masthead font and the main use of the three colours Orange, Black and yellow.

Challenge: A challenge for me was making the fonts within my taglines stand out and having an overall theme which represented the genre well.

Develop: A development I made is the shot type of the main image. Although it is a mid-shot, my model is looking away from the camera which breaks the stereotype of direct address with the target audience.

Challenge: A challenge for me was fitting the appropriate photos into the right places on the contents page. This was because the smaller photos were sometimes not clearly visible.

Develop: A development I made was to add more colour to the page headings to make them stand out more with the bright green and bold white. This would also be aesthetically more pleasing.

Use: I have used the same layout as in the shown magazine in terms of text and images and also the dark background. This allowed me to represent the genre of Drum and Bass.

Use: I used the simple idea of this double page spread quite significantly in my piece as it set out simply and clearly, using white as a main background colour meaning the pictures and font really stand out.

Challenge: I have challenged the concept of having a big title to the story, instead using a heading right at the top of the page indicating which story it is and relying on the pictures to attract attention.

Develop: A development I have made is to do with the arrangement of the pictures and how I have used the same style of pictures but arranged them in a different way I thought was suitable for my magazine.
