What I have learned in the progression of my preliminary task to my final product.

During the progression from my preliminary to my final film I learned a lot of interesting techniques regarding film production. The first technique would be shot types. Shown via screen shots there is a lack of shot variety in my preliminary and the audience is unable to make any connections to characters. I learned from this and saw how much possibility and variety there was regarding camera shots. Camera movement is also very limited as I was unsure to what each technique could offer for

my film. There was little to no action involved in our preliminary, which made the film seem kind of dull. The only action we had was a match on action to a door handle. I learned from this and was sure to use this experience to my advantage when creating my film.

We were extremely limited in terms of time, location and actors when filming our preliminary. We were given a 40 minute period lesson to form together the preliminary. In addition we were also restricted in location as we were in a lesson, the only available location to us was a classroom. The same applies also to actor, costume and props possibility. Due to having little time to prepare we obtained what we were provided with. From the progression through the preliminary to the final product I discovered loads of amazing techniques, including lightning and sound. The preliminary portrayed to me the importance of props. Props assist the audience in understanding the situation and without them a scene can become

very confusing or miss understood.

I also learned how to use a tripod and the importance of it. A tripod assisted me with holding a shot steady when needed as I would not have been able to achieve this effect through hands alone.

The preliminary task gave me an understanding to how much you can actually show in 2 minutes if techniques, shots and editing is applied correctly. For my final film I had to attempt in using a range of different camera shots and editing techniques to allow the audience to form a relationship with the character and get an idea of the storyline and genre.

I have had a lot of experience with using video cameras and my time spent with them from my preliminary to my final film has been a long duration of time. As a result my confidence in using a camera has increased dramatically. The preliminary also provided me with the opportunity to discover my strong areas and weak areas with media. I had discovered the my stronger areas was with editing, and my weaker areas were selecting camera shots for a scene. Having had a lot of practise with it all I am feeling much more confidence regarding the techniques required to create a decent film.

I discovered the importance of costume, lighting, location, actors, camera shots, camera movement, editing and sound choices in my progression. These are the 9 techniques that I developed my ability on during the progression. If all are applied and used well, your films genre and storyline should easily be portrayed out to the audience.

Time Management! Time Management is a vital concern when completing any project. I designed and created a time plan which provided me with a perfect guide into ensuring that all deadlines would be complete and that my work would be finished. Time Management is the medicine to reliving pressure. Throughout my project I felt more pressure arising as I actually fell slightly behind my time plan during the editing stage. Luckily I was able to catch up and ensure that my work was completed and the deadlines were met.
