In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products?•

My product develops and challenges the forms and conventions of a real media product through my careful planning and also through the use of many typical conventions so that it is hard to distinguish between which is a real media product and which is not. Some of the main conventions that I used are the left third, top and bottom strip, bar code, date and price etc.

I believe that my product contains most of the conventions that a consumer would expect to see and would notice immediately.

I have worked to make the main conventions bold and extremely noticeable through the use of bright colours.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

•My media product represents the Rock genre as I have used the colour scheme as my inspiration from other media products that represent my chosen genre. In order to make obvious the genre I have used a colour scheme of Black , Red , Pink and Yellow to stand out on the background.

The black background represents the darkness of 'Rock & Roll' also the mayhem within the rockers society. Black is also a stereotypical colour used for many magazines that also represent the rock genre. I used Red to stand out on the black which I believe is symbolic of some of the things that rock music represents , for example evil, hate, or loudness.

What kind of Media institution might distribute your music magazine and why?

•The media institution that I personally think would distribute my music magazine is Bauer as it works publishing and distributing magazines and had stakes in Television and radio which means that it would be allot easier to promote my music magazine so that the magazine can become popular and well known. I think that Bauer would distribute my magazine as two of their current brands are Kerrang and Q magazine and my music magazine is relates to the same genre as the other current brands that Bauer owns. My magazine would target the younger audience and this would give them a larger share of the market.

Some of the other reasons I think Bauer would distribute my magazine are that 'Ultimatum'(my magazine) really pushes the boat out, it is Something new that nobody has seen before and will definitely do well as it also metions some of the most popular and most famous bands today.

Furthermore Ultimatum shows very strong features of the rock genre and most likely will not fail to get the attention of the intended audience as the genre I have chosen is one of many sub genres and therefore can cater for any particular type of rock music that the consumer may listen to such as Screamo, Metalcore, Heavy metal etc.

Who would your target audience be and why?

•For my magazine my intended target audience are rockers of teens as my intention was to create something that would not just appeal to young audiences but there would then be something for people of this innocent age to relate to, as teens of the rock society may socialise with the older members of the rockers community. Nostalgia also plays a huge part in this as there are things that the older rockers may be able to teach teens about older rock music such as classical rock.

How did you attract and address your audience?

•In order to attract and address my audience I have used nostalgia as I have mentioned new and older bands which will get my audiences attention as they may learn of older and greater bands.Whereas I also attract my audience with a quote from the main band which refers to drug abuse which is well known as a conventional thing that most rock stars do a good example of this is Courtney Love, how she abused Oxycontin and almost overdosed. This raises awareness also of what a destructive lifestyle most rock rebels lead alongside the dangers of using drugs and abusing them which can lead to death.

Another way in which I appeal to the consumers are by the uses of colour and text which are bright and bold so they grab your attention immediately.

What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this music magazine?

(Lighting, photography, Photoshop, Indesign)•

Through the process of constructing my music magazine I have learnt about how important it is to get the right images for your product as I have struggled with this slightly when reconstructing. Also I have learnt much about Indesign as it did look extremely complicated to start with and have also learnt how to place thing into Indesign as I did not know this before.

Also Photoshop is used a lot in the process of construction, but mainly so that it can be used in Indesign.Also looking back at the preliminary task about the school magazine I am now aware of what I could have improved before and what I have improved now through colours, images and text.The reconstruction of the music magazine shows very clearly how the use of professional technology improves the quality of the finished product, I notice this when I look at my school magazine and compare it with my new music magazine.

For my front cover I chose a colour scheme of Pink, Red and Yellow these colours make the cover stand out also these colours are what I have seen being used on magazines that represent the rock genre. My reasons for choosing these colours are so that the consumer can see the magazine from a mile off, this meaning it will gain their attention straight away this will also appeal to the younger audience which is my intended audience.For the top and bottom strip I chose to use a pink as it will stand out from the rest of the front cover and does not clash with any of the other colours, I used this to slightly feminise the magazine so it may appeal to a female consumer as well as a male consumer.The band mainly wear black clothing which is symbolic of the rock genre which is very stereotypical and is seen in the media a lot. A good example of this is Marilyn Manson.I also used Yellow to make clear what the main areas of interest are on the cover, this is why I used it for the main text in the centre of my cover to outline the importance of Eternal Rests come back after a major fall from grace. Red was used mainly to symbolise the danger of leading a life purely consisting partying, rocking out, sex and drugs. Ultimatum is used as the title to make the consumer think about music more, meaning your either purely about music or your not. Also this may make the reader think about what they want in music it's perhaps either a specific genre or not , when I say this I mean you either want pure rock music all the way or not.

My contents page differs slightly from my flat plan as I decided not to follow all of my plan, my ideas started to change as I thought this would look better as a contents with one main image so that my contents is not as busy as the front cover or double page spread. My main image has a circle outline effect, this keeps within the design theme of my magazine, this being different sizes and shapes of circles, this representing the different elements within the rock genre, because rock is a broad genre with many sub genres therefore the different sizes reflect these sub genres of rock. I thought that something simple might be better for the contents page as it would be easier to read as I have split the contents into sections, this is because it is then easy to access information that may be included within the magazine that is not mentioned on the front cover. The main image consists of a male artist, he is wearing a black t-shirt which represents the dark themes of the rock genre, and it displays stereotypical characteristics of people that enjoy rock. They usually wear dark coloured clothing, because it is well known as a popular colour to wear, the fact that the male artist is wearing dark coloured clothing promotes these characteristics.Also the style of the front cover runs within the magazine to highlight codes and conventions, this of which is contributing to the house style of my product. The house style is of different coloured circles to highlight a part that is important to the magazine and makes it more appealing to lure the consumer. Furthermore, the font of the headings are the same, this is so that the consumer recognises it easily and it is memorable also wanted the contents and cover to match because so that the reader can recognise that the pattern become familiar to

the magazine.

For the double page article I thought it was appropriate to discuss the topic of drugs and drug abuse as it is seen as a stereotypical thing that most rock stars have done but I also chose this topic as it is still a problem with teens who are just out to have fun. An example of what drug abuse can do is Courtney Love as she misused Oxycontin for quite some time which led to an overdose. I have used a black background to represent the dark themes of the rock genre, and the mayhem within the rock community. In addition to this, it makes my article text stand out hence making it easy to read. As many articles in a magazine have interviews I have chosen to use a typical style interview with a running commentary, which allows the truth to be revealed in her interview about all goings on.
