What Have you learnt about technologies from the

process of constructing this product?

Personal Development

Blogger I used Blogger to type up blog posts on everything to do with pre-production including the treatment, narrative structure and production schedule.

This is good, because I can organise all my posts together and it was fairly simple to use. However at times I had difficulties with certain texts looking different when published to how I originally wrote it.

I have found this easy to use and I am able to embed pieces of media directly or via HTML code.

Internet Research To do some research on pre-production such as BSR themes and looking at previous examples of BSR films.

This was easy to do, because using a search engine like Google made it easier to find the relevant information.

I haven't developed much, because I use this all the time. I can say I am better at picking out key information from the internet.

Microsoft Office Excel I used this to create my shooting script.

This is easy to use and the format was clear. I didn’t experience any problems using this software.

I have used this program multiple times before so I knew how it works, therefore I didn’t progress much.

iPhone- video camera To record audiences response for my audience research. I used my iPhone because it was the quickest option at hand and it can take good quality videos.

This was successful, because it was able to take good quality videos for a small portable device, without the need for a professional camera. The limitation was the storage as I didn’t have enough memory so I had to delete some space and record quickly.

I use this as my personal device so I know exactly how to use this so I haven’t developed any further by doing this task.

Personal Development

iMovie I used iMovie to edit all my audience feedback and create a vox pop.

This was successful, because I could trim all the clips from each different person and compile it together. I didn’t face any challenges with this, because it was a basic task of trimming and putting it together.

This made me more skilful in using iMovie so I am more familiar with the software which is handy for when I used it in post-production.

Microsoft Office PowerPoint

I used this to create my production schedule and ‘meet my audience’ PowerPoint slide.

I was able to present my work in an organised matter that is easily readable. This is a popular software and I have a lot of experience making presentations so I didn’t face any difficulties.

I didn’t develop my skills with this as I am already familiar with the software, however I have strengthened my usage of PowerPoint.

Issuu I use this website to publish all my powerpoints and excel documents to be viewed online. I then use the embed code from Issuu and put it in blogger so that I can view my work on my blog posts.

This is a new piece of technology I am using, however it doesn’t take long before knowing how to use it. I can easily upload PowerPoint documents, however a problem arised when trying to upload an excel document as Issuu doesn’t support excel file types. I had to convert the file into a pdf format before uploading.

I now know how to use this site so I am able to publish popular document types online which I was unable to do so before. This will be useful in the future if I need to publicly present my presentations.

Digital Camcorder In the library, street and South Park.To record the footage for my production.

This is successful, because it is easy to use and I had no problems with using it. This is light and portable so it was easy to carry when travelling to the locations. It is easy to transfer the files straight on to a Mac.

I am more trained in using a camera steady and can take better still shots.

iPhone- voice recorder

I used my iPhone to use the voice recorder feature to create the voiceover used in my library scene.

This is a simple and easy task which didn’t take longer than ten minutes. The only challenge was transferring the recorded file to the Mac, because using a usb cable didn’t work. Therefore I had to email the clip to myself from the iPhone to the Mac.

I have learnt a way to bring clips from an iPhone to a Mac which is useful in the future if I came across this again.

iMovie To edit the footage and put it together to create the film. I used iMovie because it has a good reputation and its easy to use.

This is successful, because I was able to complete my production in time with minimal issues. I don’t have to worry about any malfunctions, because the program saves automatically.

I have increased my knowledge in using iMovie and I know how to remove ken burns now. I was also able to edit sound better as I needed to have more than one layer of sound and make it sync.

Photoshop I used this to create my Production logo and my film title.

I personally am new to using this software, however my partner was familiar with it so I learned from him also how to use it. This worked well as we managed to create the logo how we wanted it. Only problem was we had to change my logo which was ‘Concrete Corporations’ and had to get rid of the ‘s’ as it shouldn’t exist. This became more troublesome as we hadn’t saved our work, so we had to create it again and due to this, we were unable to find the font we originally used so we chose an alternative.

I learned how to use the basics of Photoshop which is great for photo editing. I also learned that I should always save my work regardless of whether I need it or not.

Livetype To create the opening credits. I wanted to use this because it has a wide range of special effects, more than iMovie.

This program is good as I was able to create a huge range of titles which could go well in the film, although it was hard finding out where everything is as it wasn’t simple to use. There was also problems in learning how to export the title to my iMovie project. However in the end my partner and I decided not to use titles from Livetype as it didn’t work well with the film to build up the tenseness.

I learned how to create graphics on this program. However, sometimes even the simple graphics are more effective, which is why I chose to use the graphics from iMovie which is limited but simple and effective.

Logic Pro I used this to create the music for my film. Me nor my partner knew how to play any instruments so it was best to use a professional software to do it for us.

It was fairly challenging to use and we had a lot of drafts but me and my partner found a piece that we both liked. We wanted a beat that was powerful and intensifying to match the action on screen.

I have learned the basics on how to create music using Logic Pro as I have not used this before.

YouTube I used this to upload my completed project and also to include annotations. I used this, because this website is the most popular video surfing website of all time.

This website is easy to use for uploading videos and I was able to embed videos easily to my blog. I also used annotations which is easy, but it would have been better if I could pause the video intentionally while it is played so the audience can read the annotations without them needing to press it.

I haven’t really learned much apart from adding in annotations and controlling the timing of when and how long it should be played.
