Evaluation on mad men intro-Media prospective Mad men is ‘a drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executive, Donald Draper’. I will be evaluating the fist few scenes of episode 1 and will be demonstrating the Link to representations of the shots. After the intro, the first scene is where the camera is tracking the waiters and establishing the interior of a bar in New York. The camera pans to the back of a businessman called Don Draper, he is sitting in his own booth by himself. This is this shows gender representative because it I stereo-typical of a man drinking in the bar, but don has his own booth which suggests that he makes quite a lot of money because he can afford to reserve a booth just for him. The next shot involves Dons point of view, when he is looking down at napkin, which shows his workings, this is gender representative of a hard-headed businessman who is always working even in his leisure time. Then next shot is a bird’s eye view of the building where Don works, the shot is looking down at the side of the office building where you can see both genders

Evaluation on mad men intro-Media prospectiveMad men is ‘a drama about one of New York's most

prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely

talented ad executive, Donald Draper’.

I will be evaluating the fist few scenes of episode 1 and will be demonstrating the Link to representations of the shots.

After the intro, the first scene is where the camera is tracking the waiters and establishing the interior of a bar in

New York. The camera pans to the back of a businessman called Don Draper, he is sitting in his own booth by himself. This is this shows gender representative because it I stereo-

typical of a man drinking in the bar, but don has his own booth which suggests that he makes quite a lot of money because he can afford to reserve a booth just for him. The next shot involves Dons point of view, when he is looking down at napkin, which shows his workings, this is gender

representative of a hard-headed businessman who is always working even in his leisure time.

Then next shot is a bird’s eye view of the building where Don works, the shot is looking down at the side of the office

building where you can see both genders walking on a busy street into the main office building, this shows that where

don works is a high profile establishment and that he is part of a big company in new york. The next shot is of the inside

of the building, it shows everybody working in collaboration in the building both gender types, this shot is a tracking shot

as the two women walking though the building as the secretary introduced the new woman to the areas of the new

building this shot is very gender representative because it shows all of the women working on the type writing

machines, which would have been a very stereotypical job for a women in 1960s America. But as the tracking shot goes on you can see all of the different areas of the building, and the offices the layers are where the men work, this is very gender representative because it shows that the men are

above women in society, in the scene, the women un folds the typewriter and she says that it is a complicated piece of technology, this shows that she is aware that men are above women and she knows the routine. This could go on to say that women have no desire to change society and that they are happy with society, but in the scene where don is at the women’s apartment the woman seems to be the one who is acting like the man in the relationship which shows that she

has a desire to change the way things are, because in the Moring don is on top of the woman which shows that she is more in control and she was doing all right on her own. This Juxtaposes gender representation as she is represented as

higher than don in society.
