Evaluation of my Magazine

Page 2: Evaluation of my magazine

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

After studying other well-established magazines, it gave me inspirations for the creation and production of my magazine

The layout of my magazine front cover resembles this Q magazine front cover. I placed the name of the magazine right at the top of the page with a picture of the main person featured in the magazine at the centre of the magazine. I also go the idea of having the barcode on the front page on the right side from this magazine.

This contents page for Q magazine gave me inspirations for my magazine. It gave me ideas on what to include in my magazine actual contents of the contents page. It showed me the information that I needed to include in the magazine. It also gave me ideas on the layout of it. I got the inspiration of where to place the different aspects of the contents page. For example having the features on the left hand side.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine represents people in their late teenage years and young adults who are into rock music.  The reason for this is because before the production process of my magazine, I conducted a social survey in the form of a questionnaire where most of the respondents were of that age range. Therefore my magazine is directed at them and it includes what they look for in a music magazine.

The magazine would be aimed at people who like to go to rock festivals and such rock festivals like Reading festival would be an appropriate event where we can establish the magazine and sell it there as well.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution that might distribute my magazine would be Music-Mags as they are a well-established distribution company that specialises in publishing music magazines.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience of my magazine would be young people who are into rock music. This is because the music genre that the magazine is built up upon is Rock music.

Another reason for the targeted audience to be young people is because the investigation behind the creation of the magazine was done through young people. (The magazine).

How did you attract/address your audience?

Through the uses of a range of colours that are in conjunction to the theme of the magazine helps to attracts the audiences. use of colours. The colours I used in the magazine are as follows:

Colours used:

Pictures used:For the front page picture, we organised a photo-shoot with a set of elements that would help make the rock vibe that we were trying to convey be more transparent. This included having our model dressed up like a female rock star. We got inspirations from looking at current female rock artists. We also used a guitar as a prop to add the little bit of Rock &Roll vibe that the photo-shoot needed.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The main aspects through the process of the construction of my magazine that I have leant a lot from is through the Photoshop software. Prior to the construction of my magazine this software was alien to me. I did not know how to used most (if not all) of the devises/ tools at my disposal on this particular software.

Through the course if making my magazine I have learnt the in’s and out’s of the software. I have also been able to develop my understanding of how the software works.

A devise known as the lasso tool on Photoshop is one the key aspects of the new skills that I have learnt/developed through the construction of my magazine. It is a tool that allow you to cut out sections of a picture. However due to the temperamental nature of the tool, I struggled a bit at the start, but through a lot of practice I managed to somehow master it.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt a lot from the transition of the preliminary task to my final piece. I was able to use the evaluation of my preliminary task to assess what I needed to improve on to make my final piece a success. I have progressed in my knowledge of Photoshop. I developed the skills of using the lasso tool when cutting out sections of a picture.

I learnt how to make my magazine seem more professional by studying more music magazines such as Q, Vibe and NME. This gave me inspirations on how to develop my final magazine.
