Question 5-7

By Dionne Akoto

Evaluation 2..

How did you attract/address your audience?

Page 3: Evaluation Media 2

After the market research stage we decided to base our thriller on what the audience liked. They liked a thriller filled with action. We achieved this by making the edits fast and sharp allowing the audience to feel involved in the action. We also added the aspect of action my showing a running scene of Sara. The car scene was also to the needs of the consumer as there were different shots.

As a teenager I am personally interested in music and a good storyline when watching a film. We tried to attract the audience by basing the storyline on illegal activity that really does take place. The music we picked was very fast paced and edgy helping to engage the audience and also matching the action of the storyline. The thriller also includes diegetic sound making the thriller more realistic and also to engage the audience in the thriller.

After talking to young boys, we found that they watched movies because of people in the movie for example Megan fox in Transformers 2. This is why we decided to start a female in the film. However we were not able to give her a more glamorous look as it would not fit in the storyline. The thriller also ends on a cliff-hanger leaving people wanting more.

Overall we had a lot of thought in how the film would be produce to keep the audience more engaged.

What have you learnt about the technologies from process of constructing this product?

Page 5: Evaluation Media 2

Throughout this coursework task I have learnt a lot about filming and editing equipment. For example the camera, tripod, Imac and Imovie maker software. All these technologies I had never used before. I usually use my mobile phone to film any events never a digital camera. I was taught my Mr Johnson how to put a tape into a digital camera. If sir had not have taught me I would have probably broken the camera. I was also taught how to start, stop, rewind and forward the tape. I have also learnt how to use a tripod. A tripod is the stand for the camera. I was taught by Paul how to place the camera onto the stand, I was also careful to secure it properly so that the camera would not fall off. He also told me how to secure the legs properly and to make sure it was not at an angle. He also showed me how to pan the camera and tilt the camera. Panning is from left to right or right to left and tilting was up and down movement. This really helped me to understand the camera when filming the preliminary video. All these really help me with the filming part of my coursework.

When editing I had to learn how to use the Imac. The teacher had to teach the class how to turn them on and how to log in and out of our user areas. We also had the help of the tutorials that the teachers showed us. The tutorials showed us how to use the transactions. I was able to play around with our preliminary film to get use to the software. When using the Imovie maker software, it was very easy to cut and put together the film as imovie was every explainable but when I got stuck I had Patience to help me throughout the project. Imovie is very useful for people who are new to editing films, as it is cheap and the outcome always looks professional.

Whilst creating my blog I had to use a lot of website in order to complete the blog to the highest standard. I used the website blogger.com to record my daily entries. It was easy to understand and i could see why the exam would set this website. However, I had learnt the falls with blogger as you could easily copy ideas from other people’s blog, but on the other hand it was helpful when I needed. I also had to use YouTube as I had to add my end product and other videos in my blog. We had to create and account, so Saima decided to do this therefore I didn’t have to go through the whole process of creating an account. I used true media to create my montage. I had to create an account which was not hard to do. After that I had to upload pictures which I got from Google and other search engines. Then I had to select the transactions that I wanted. This process was very simple and cheap as it was free for a basic account. I also had to use slide share for my evaluation which was on PowerPoint presentation. I had to make an account then I had to upload the presentations onto the website and after the downloading was complete I was given a code to enter into my blog. I used this website because I thought it would engage viewers of my blog. I also used survey monkey to create my questionnaire as I would be easier to reach my target audience so I put the questionnaire on Facebook. It also made it easier for me to collect the information and turn them into bar graphs. It also allowed me to add as many questions and the style, I wanted. I also used scibd.com to upload a PDF file on to my blog. I didn’t have to join as i already had a Facebook account. All these help me with the making of my blog.

Looking back at your preliminary task what do

you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to

the product?

Page 9: Evaluation Media 2

Throughout my whole media coursework I have learnt so much. The first thing I personally learnt was how to control myself when people did not understand where I was coming from. This would help me everywhere I go, especially when working in teams. My team really did help me through this coursework and it would not have been possible without them. Thanks to Paul, Patience and Saima.

When shooting the preliminary video, we learnt how to import, cut and add transactions to our task. However we did not know how to import music, therefore the dialogue was in the wrong order. The task also taught us how to use the tape of the camera effectively. We learnt how to record over incorrect work. We only found this out on the second time we started filming the preliminary. This helped us understand the camera and also the editing process. Teaching us important things we needed to know.

The preliminary video shows how we have learnt about the camera and how to edit film properly. In our preliminary there are no camera angles. However in our outcome there are many different angles and positions that make sense to the media influenced eye. There are also many different shots, like the over the should in the car or the point of view shot when coming down the stairs and also when running in the garden. These were all discussed at a group meeting before filming but after making our preliminary video. We used these types of shots to help engage the audience and also to show our understanding of cinematography.

During the editing of the film we also learnt how to add music and reduce the volume when need to be and use appropriate transactions. When making the preliminary we kept cutting our footage as it was not good enough to add to the task. So when making the end product we knew what we wanted and what we didn’t. We were also shown how to download the music and play around with the software in order to increase or decrease the music. We had to use the line of music to do this.

Overall I have learnt that when making a film there are a lot of things that we need to take into account. And also that attention to detail is the key to a good film. Therefore failure to plan is planning to fail.
