Improvement of Using Software's Improved and learnt new skills and my ability in using ADOBE Photoshop and

Indesign compared to before

I had gained more confidence in using ADOBE Indesign as I wasn’t familiar with

using this type of software in the past

Compared to my college magazine main-task, I was feeling unsure on how to use the

Indesign software properly as I didn’t have any problems with Photoshop as I’ve

used it before

After a session on a tutorial, I have explored and began to briefly create my college

magazine before designing my actual music magazine as I was able to gain some

experience before

Although it took me quite a while to get used to Indesign software, after many

encounter- I started to learn from my mistakes and finished my college magazine

I wasted my contingency time to go back and improve my college magazine but I had

no spare time left as I was still figuring it out on how to use it effectively

Compared to now, I still do sometimes look at my notes in case I’m using the right

tools to help me design my actual music magazine obtained

Also, I have improved and gained patience as I tend to give up and wait for the

teacher to help me so I’ve used my spare time to continue exploring the different

types of tools in Indesign and Photoshop as well (just in case purposes)

In comparison to My College Magazine

• Mast headline chosen is LSChronicle – as I look back, it

appeared tacky and not appropriate towards my target

audiences

•Target audiences was the college students of LSC

•The colour schemes used is red, yellow, black and white

•Less cover lines included

•No prize of the magazine included

•The image chosen is appropriate as it portrays one of the

students being as representative on their own

organisation obtained

•The student is directly smiling at the camera as it

engages the readers attention

•Used Photoshop skills e.g. adjusting the brightness

•Included more cover lines in comparison to my college

magazine

•Appropriate cover line that would fit in with the genre of

my music; indie/rock

•Used different font styles suitable for my target

audiences obtained

•Which are bys and girls in their 14 year olds and above

but mainly targeting towards female audiences

•Included the prize of my magazine (important element

feature to add)

•Used and improved my Photoshop skills in editing my

chosen image feature

•Improved my photography skills and learnt techniques

In comparison to My College MagazineContents Page

• The background colour wasn’t appropriate for my

target audiences

•Feedback obtained stated that the colour is bias as

the colour pink would only attract female readers

•The Contents title appears to be quite small as it

needs to be resized the font size bigger

•The context appears to be poorly coordinated as the

layout appears to be messy

•It looks unprofessional as it’s stated from one of the

feedback obtained

•However, the image below links back to the

organisation as it portrays the picture of the college

• I have mainly focus on laying out my elements

appropriately and appealing towards my target

audiences

• I have included more relevant elements that would be

appropriate to include on my music magazine

• I have also improved using InDesign, as my college

magazine appeared simple but not enough context

• The images chosen presents related features on the

magazine as I personally took them

•Improved my skills on Photography; knowing the

basics of using Nikon D7000 camera to get the best

images to illustrate my indie/rock magazine

•Used NME & Kerrang magazine for inspiration

InDesign & Photoshop Skills Before, I wasn’t familiar with using InDesign software as I haven’t came across

it before but I did know the basic of using ADOBE Photoshop as I created a subtask before

After having a tutorial lesson on how to use InDesign, I became more at ease and confident as I now know most of the basic tools of the software

However, Photoshop and InDesign does have similar elements of tools so I was able to create a brief design for my contents and DTP page

I only used and created my front cover for my music magazine by Photoshop software

I was able to keep up and complete my front cover for my music magazine on time and being able to go back to my contingency time in order to make any improvements as I wanted my front cover to appear appropriate, appealing and professional towards my target audiences intended

I also explored InDesign software in my spare time so I was able to get my contents and DTP page completed in time because I was still sometimes unsure of how to get a certain object element to add on my subtask

However, I watched some video tutorials in using InDesign software as it was easier for me to design my subtasks this way and I was able to include certain elements onto my music magazine overall

Other Features As for my Photography skills, I have used the Nikon D7000 camera in order to capture

and take images based on my main feature model of my music magazine

Since Photography is one of my courses, I was able to set the camera and change the setting in order to get the types of professional yet appealing images that I had in mind

I set the camera to Program mode, auto focus, aperture towards 1/100 and the shutter speed is 5.6

I chose to have a black backdrop as the colour black would symbolise the type of genre for my music magazine, which is indie/rock

Also, I have use Photoshop software to edit my images in order to appear more professional and effective towards my target audiences

I have never worked in a photography studio room and using the light and reflector before but I was able to adapt it quickly because I had some assistant to help and teach me the basics in a studio room

I also explored different types of poses that would appear approepriate towards the genre of my music magazine and towards the target audiences as well

As the target audiences are boys and girls with ages above 14 year olds

But mainly focusing more on female audiences because of their lack of knowledge against indie/rock music as Pop is rising into fame and has a lot of fans that are mainly girls as I want to change that

More Improvements On my college magazine evaluation, I had mentioned that one of my weaknesses was

sorting out the layout of my elements and I only added small amount of cover lines; which is not appealing and would interest the target audiences attention as it appears half empty and plain

In further improvement, I had added more detailed cover lines and other appropriate context for my genre of music magazine

Such as updating the readers with new updates, news, comebacks, reviews etc.

I also decided to include a FREE poster in order to advertise and distribute to my audiences as it would be able to benefit the prize of my music magazine

Getting a FREE poster would gather more target audiences intended

Looking back at my college evaluation, I didn’t use the right font styles for my text as it didn’t blend well with the colour scheme chosen

I also said that I needed to improve my journalism technique as I didn’t include much context for my college magazine

So then, my college magazine had helped me understand and learn from my mistakes in the past that I need and have to include and improve these types of elements as it would appear more professional and suitable for the type of music genre gathered

It had helped me build up my self-confidence as I was confuse back then on how I would design an actual music magazine but then from onwards- I thought to myself that it takes real patience and understanding when it comes to doing things you haven’t done before

Feedback Gained Based on a group discussion, I have received some negative comments for

example; the colour schemes for used for my college magazine appeared bias to its own target audiences intended

As I have used the colour pink as for my background colour scheme but my target audiences are targeted towards college students, as in for boys and girls(more female audiences would be captivate instead of males)

And some stated in a group discussion that I needed to include more features from my college magazine so in order to improve this, I looked back on examples of similar genre of my music magazine such as NME and Kerrang, and gained some ideas on what types of cover lines I would add onto my music magazine

Also, I asked one of my target audience for their own point of view and stated that the use of Photoshop skills that I did on my chosen images appeared appealing as it blended well with the black background colour of my front cover

Another feedback that my house style looked good but I needed to include and complete the features section for my initial Contents page intended

So then, I had to go back and completed my final contents page and improved the layout of my elements in order for them to be aligned accurately within each other
