Media Promotion Package

For my coursework this year I have worked in a group and individual. We created a

promoting package for a new film that includes a teaser trailer, together with a film magazine front cover, featuring the film and

a poster for the film.

For the first half of this promotion package I have workedin a group with three other members of my class. We cameup with different questions for a questionnaire. I went andask 30 different peop0le around school to answer thequestionnaire to find out what are their likes and dislikes.This identifies the film genre that we focused on. I and mygroup split up the work between us in order to make ourresearch stronger and to find out what are the codes andconventions for a romantic comedy teaser trailer. After acoupe of months I found my self in a difficult positionwhen I found that the other members of my group haven’tdone the work that they should of. I decided to go aheadand do the work by myself. I started by researching whatis a teaser trailer and what does the romantic comedygenre includes.

After that I started analyzing existing products. Eachmember of my group were meant to analyze 2existing trailers to make our reached stronger inorder to find the codes and conventions of aRomCom teaser trailer. I analyzed two existingtrailers one form 1990 and the other form 2009.This would allow me to compare and contrast thetwo. After I have done my research I listed down thecodes and conventions for a romantic comedy teasertrailer. I have found that the scenes are not in orderand the narrative is non linear in a teaser trailer, theclips are fast and quick. This is done in order to getthe audience interested about the movie and to makethem go and watch it when it comes out.

One other convention about a teaser trailer is that itshows the location(s) that the movie is set. We haveused for our trailer our college for most of the scenesthat we have filmed. That gives and shows that thecharacters are still in school and this allows the targetaudience to identify with the characters. Most of theteaser trailer that I have seen have a backgroundmusic witch is suitable for the trailer. Me groupfound a soundtrack form a band got the rights to useit in our trailer. For me personally this is not the typeof music that I like but the lyrics are very suitable forthe trailer. I have notes in an existing products thatthe male character is more dominant and the femaleis subordinate is a way. We decided to go againstthe conventions and to create the male charactersubordinate and venerable and the female moreindependent and bossy in a way.

For my poster and front cover of a magazinefeaturing the movie I worked on my own. Ianalyzed different posters and front covers. Ihave found what the conventions are and I havefollowed them to make my products successful. Iused similar layout for my magazine cover andmy poster as an existing products. I used colorconnotation to suggest different ideas about thefilm. For the poster I used a plain whitebackground witch is very common for romanticcomedy posters the reason for that is that theposter focuses more of the relationship of thecharacters or the characters as a whole.

Some romantic comedy poster have abackground witch identify the location were themovie is set but this usually goes against theconventions. I have looked closely at the billingblocks in one poster and research what are thebilling blocks and what they contain. I havecrated my own billing blocks for the poster. Ihave found that most trailers, fiction, action,fantasy and comedy genre movies have acharacter poster. I went created a characterposter for my promotion package witch isunconventional for a romantic comedy film. Iused the same convention and similar layout forthe character poster. I think this would make thepromotion package for the movie moresuccessful and would raise beggar interest forthe movie.

As I whole I think that is successful and if itwas going to be promote for real it wasgoing to have some success as a lowbudget movie. Some improvement can bemade in order the package to look moreprofessional and more existing productscan be analyzed. As I have shown mypromotion package to some students at myschool I have received a positive feedbackabout my promotion package.

Here are some of the feedbacks that I have received form my target audience. I created an online survey. The audience feedback gave me some positive criticism but over all of the people who answered my survey thought that the trailer and over all cross-promotion package looked very professional and they would like to know that is going to happen in the actual movie. I think over all my product is successful.

- Yes i would go and watch the film at a cinema and probably buy it on DVD too.

I have used a lot of different IT skills in myconstruction and research, planning and evaluation. Iused my advance research and different searchengines to make my research more successful I haveused different websites to support my research. Aswell as the internet I used different books to findmore information about conventions and trailers. Forthe construction of my promotion package I haveused Mac iMovie to edit and publish the trailer. Theprogram is easy to use once you get familiar with it.The quality of the trailer is good because of thesoftware and the good video camera that we haveused. We have used handheld camera (Panasonic).

For the magazine cover and the poster I have used mystill camera (Kodak 6mpix) to take the photos. I usedAdobe CS2 Photoshop to edit and create theproducts. I like using Adobe because I’m familiarwith the software and I create different effects. I haveused the website http://www.docuter.com/ to storeand share some of my documents. For my Audiencefeedback I have used an online survey website tocreate my server. I send a message to some of myfriends on facebook and through email to answer mysurvey. This was good way to create a questionnairebecause I had the chance to include the trailer,posters and the front cover of the magazine. Also Ihad different question some of them needed a simpleanswer other had to be answered in a text form.
