I have chosen to compare this picture of Drake from ‘VIBE’

magazine in my Task 5 with the front cover photo from my

magazine to explain how my magazine represents a particular social group, in this case being

Hip-Hop/R&B

Drake and my front cover photo are both Medium Close-up shots and are both posing with their heads slightly to the side, with Drake looking into the camera and my cover photo looking slightly off. They are both wearing caps to fit in with the Hip-Hop/R&B genre, with my front cover image cap reading “OBEY” emphasising the type of genre even more.

I've made my front cover model have a similar sort of pose as Drake as I’ve seen it’s obviously quite effective and works great on the front cover of the ‘VIBE’ magazine. The magazine genre is based upon followers of my R&B/Hip-Hop/Dubstep and Drum and Bass genre, however the front cover of the magazine is mostly representing the R&B/Hip-Hop genre and has stereotyped the genre.

The source is the world’s second longest running rap periodical, behind UK-based “Hip-Hop connection”, with the current president of the publication being Jeremy Miller.

It’s grown to the point of being called “The Bible of Hip-Hop,” which is why it would be perfect for my magazine.

If my magazine was to get published, I would like to have it produced by someone similar to this type of magazine as it’s the same sort of genre, and on the Dubstep/Drum and Bass genre, there are not many magazines on this sort of genre.

My magazine appeals to a younger hip-hop/R&B audience as well as the Dubstep/Drum and Bass genre so it’d be likely that they would distribute something along the lines of my media magazine.

IPC Media (The International Publishing Corporation Ltd) produces over 60 iconic media brands and with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men, almost 26 million UK adults, while the websites reach over 20 million users every month.

Bauer and IPC share similar subgenres, costs, advertising agencies, with via radio or subscription details, as the majority of readers are British, but would be inappropriate to distribute my magazine because similar magazines such as “VIBE” and “XXL” don’t fit in with the genres and there’s not a current official magazine distributing the types of genre I have used combined, and IPC Media distributes magazines such as “Kerrang!”, therefore they wouldn’t distribute it, but distributors of Hip-Hop/R&B magazines may distribute it because my magazine is similar to “VIBE”.

Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine founded by producer Quincy Jones. The publication predominantly features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers.

4. Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product 4. Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product

My target audience for my magazine is aged 14-20 year olds male and female, but slightly bias to males as I feel more males listen to Dubstep/Drum and Bass and R&B/Hip-Hop.

The typical reader of my magazine will love listening to music a lot of the time whether they’re doing coursework or out with their mates.

The social class of my target audience would be roughly C1-B as they’re likely to spend their money on magazines, and C2/D wouldn’t really seem the type to purchase magazines.

The target audience I have described wouldn’t typically be followers of mainstream, although the music genres in my magazine have the R&B/Hip-Hop genre, I also have the Dubstep and Drum and Bass genre which isn’t in a lot of magazines in shops and differs from most of them as you wouldn’t normally mix these genres together, but after the research in the earlier Tasks I found out that it’s very popular with the 14-20 age group and that combining them would open up a wider range of audience.
