Research Planning Production Evaluation Software Hardware Internet Powerpoint Slideshare Blogger Survey Monkey Facebook Phone Camera Memory Stick Computer Microsoft Word Powerpoint Slideshare Blogger Photoshop Bridge Word Dafont Computer Memory Stick Camera Memory Stick Computer Computer Memory Stick Internet Powerpoint Word Youtube(Screenshots) Blogger Slideshare 5. This was my first time using the blogging website Blogger. I created my media blog on this, this is where I uploaded and presented my research, planning, production and evaluation. I found that this made all elements of my project much easier to view, and more accessible. It's compatible with many different file types, as I uploaded from: Powerpoint (Slideshare) Microsoft Word JPEGS Youtube Adobe Bridge I learnt how to create new posts on my blog, and how to update them later if I needed to. 6. Slideshare is the software I used to be able to upload my powerpoints to my blog, because powerpoint isn't supported by the website Blogger From using slideshare to upload so many powerpoints to my blog, I learnt how to upload a powerpoint to slidshare, and then get a embed code which I pasted into blogger which created a viewable version of a powerpoint on my blog. 7. DSLR (Camera)DSLR (Camera) Because I have a keen interest in photography, it meant that I already had general knowledge on how to use a camera affectively. (Changing exposure, shutter speed ect) Therefore I chose to take my magazines photographs in a studio as it meant I could put my camera knowledge to use, using artificial lighting to create the harsh shadows I wanted in my images. 8. PhotoshopPhotoshop Again I already had basic knowledge of how to use photoshop, however creating my magazine widended my knowledge of how to use the software. Some of the things I used photoshop for when creating my magazine were: Editing the look of my images (Exposure, Contrast Colour Balance) Layering(Making sure things overlapped in the right places) Opacity (Changing the opacity of my plug so it doesn't look like a sticker on the magazine) Guidlines (Making sure the spacing for my double page spread was correct) Something I learnt when using photoshop was how to put the magazines logo behind the splash image. I did this by using the magic wand tool to select the area of hair I wanted to cover the logo, then duplicated the layer and placed it ontop of the logo. 9. What technology could I haveWhat technology could I have done without?done without? I could have done my project without using Survey Monkey, this is because I could have either typed my questions out and given out the sheet for people to fill in, or I could have handwritten the questions, or even recorded interviews with a voice recorder. There are many different way of carrying out an interview/questionnaire I could have done without using Microsoft word, as I could have created text/image documents on photoshop. The only reason I used Microsoft word was because I was more familiar with it and creating simple documents such as reader profiles seemed to be quicker on Microsoft word. I could have completed my project without Microsoft word if I had a wider breadth of knowledge of how to use photoshop. 10. What piece of technologyWhat piece of technology couldn't you have done without?couldn't you have done without? I couldn't have done without internet explorer. Using the internet was essential, especially in my product research as it enabled me to find magazines reletive to the genre of magazine that I wanted to create (Rock Music.) Its also let me search for images of magazine front covers, contents and articles that I could then analyse to get knowledge I needed to create my own magazine. It also meant I could carry out my publisher research quickly and easily as the information I needed was already arranged and presented, as each publisher had their own website which displayed the magazine brands they publish and other forms of media. I also needed the internet for websites such as slideshare and blogger which were essential in presenting the research, planning and production of my magazine. I also used the internet to upload my reader interviews as they were uploaded via youtube. 11. Positives of using technologyPositives of using technology Using technology to complete the project was very time efficient. For example if I wanted to find some information on Bauer Media, with technology (Internet Explorer) I'd have to visit a library and find a book that has information about Bauer Media, and even then there is a chance that the library may not have the information I needed. However if I used a search engine to find out information, I get thousands of different web pages available in a very short amount of time, and this information is revisit-able whenever I needed to view it again. Using the internet meant I could screenshot or download any images I wanted to evaluate or pieces of information that were important, rather than having to note down or re-write out any information I wanted. Another useful and time saving piece of technology was survey monkey, because I could post my questionnaire to social networking sites such as facebook and twitter, it meant I could get quick replies and a larger amount of results. 12. Negatives of using technologyNegatives of using technology One of the negatives I experienced when doing my project was that technology can sometimes fail and be unreliable. I carried out all of my product research and had begun my planning which was saved onto a memory stick. My memory stick then corrupted meaning I lost all my work and had wasted a large amount of time, meaning I had an even shorter time frame to complete my project in. Also, information found on the internet cannot always been valid, sites such as wikipedia can be accessed and edited by any member of the public, meaning that the information is not always true/accurate. Also information of the internet can sometimes be outdated, meaning that some facts/figures may have once been true, but have changed over time. Getting to grips with the software was quite difficult, even though I already had experience with photoshop because of my photography course, it was difficult to learn how to use it for my media course simply because I was using a different computer to the one I use for my photography course.
