Catalonia’s population is similar to those of countries like Denmark, Bulgaria and Austria. Its GDP is greater than Ireland’s and Finland’s and similar to those of Denmark, Greece and Austria.
It exports more than Portugal and the Slovak Republic and about as much as Finland and Hungary.
At €28,046 / year, Catalan GDP per capita is above the European average (EU-25) and on a par with those of Denmark, France and Germany.

Barcelona has consolidated its position as the 4th best European city in which to locate a business and the best city in Europe in terms of the quality of life of its workers, according to the study conducted annually by Cushman & Wakefield, and has also maintained a low
position in the world ranking of cities with a high cost of living. Barcelona has maintained its position as the best city since 1996, beating other European cities such as Paris, London and
Madrid.

Barcelona is seen as one of the cities that does the most to improve.
According to Mercer's 2009 Quality of Living survey covering 215 cities, Barcelona is among the 50 cities in
the world with the best quality of life.

The most powerful supercomputer in Spain and one of the most powerful in Europe. It is used for supercomputing projects in the life sciences, biotech and chemical industries, among others.
BSC is currently working on a new supercomputer 100 times more powerful that will be operative in 2012.
