Actions from last meeting

PL had circulated a question asking members if we should lift the cap on MC member numbers

from 12. A quorum of MC members agreed by email and at the meeting so this was accepted.

PL will amend the EPSMA ‘formation contract’. Done

PL asked if members actually used the databases. GS offered to review the databases on the

website and give an opinion of their usefulness. Done see later

It was recognized that end-users in the US have been ‘educated’ to expect only UL marks.

Various proposals were discussed to raise the profile of the issue including asking UL for a

formal policy statement on the issue. PL will coordinate drafting of a letter to be sent on behalf

of the EPSMA

Ongoing PL

Post meeting: CK has forwarded a phone number for contact with Martial Patra. PL will make

contact and discuss participation Ongoing PL

It was suggested that the EPSMA might become a member of EuropElectro which is a ZVEI

initiative to represent the European electrical and electronic industry in China, particularly

relating to standards work. PL will investigate costs and conditions. No reply from

Europelectro.

Ongoing PL

BE queried whether the document would include contribution by electrolytic capacitors to

lifetime. He has a contact at NCC who can provide information. BE to forward contact details to

PC for distribution. Done

The project to generate a document Embedded Software Validation in Power Supplies has no

further progress to date but VG will be contacting SiQ to source information Done

Membership update

PL suggested that the MC member fee discount not be lost if MC members are not able to

attend conference calls, due to Corona virus problems. This was agreed.

Page 3: European Power Supplies Manufacturers’ Association EEIG 2Q20 minutes.pdf · The next TC meeting would normally be during the Electronica show but may need to be a conference call

The secretariat had received a request for affiliate membership from the organisation

‘Energyville’ a Belgium-based grouping of four universities and research institutes working on

sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems. The meeting unanimously agreed to the

membership. Post meeting – PL has informed Energyville of the decision and will add them to

the member list and give access to the members’ area.

No other membership changes.

EPSMA EEIG status after Brexit

No further news. UK government guidance has not changed since January 2020.

Post meeting - PL circulated a presentation from Intertek kindly forwarded by Patrick Le-Fevre

about the regulatory impact of Brexit. This includes information about a new mark ‘UKCA’

which has to be applied to products deemed to be ‘under mandatory regulatory controls’ sold

into the UK. PL will also place a link to the presentation in the members’ area of the website

Action PL

Finance Update

No document sales

One member still to pay 2020 fees. PL is chasing.

FY2018/2019 accounts still require audit.

The budget for the year has changed a little for the better as some meeting expenses will not

occur due to no face-to-face meetings. Projected surplus now £2763

The budget is shown in the slides attached.

Technical Committee update

Paul Conway, technical committee chairman gave his quarterly report. This is included in the

slide copies at the end of these minutes.

Page 4: European Power Supplies Manufacturers’ Association EEIG 2Q20 minutes.pdf · The next TC meeting would normally be during the Electronica show but may need to be a conference call

Current projects: ‘Guidelines for Life-time Prediction for Power Supplies’ and ‘Embedded

Software Validation in Power Supplies’ are progressing well with the former available for

review shortly and a draft of the latter by the end of May.

It was agreed that the title should change to ‘Embedded Software Verification and

Validation in Power Supplies’.

Future possible report projects were discussed including ‘Electric vehicle standards’. It was

agreed that there was no obvious standardization at present reference safety practices but a

report on more general aspects might be useful. PL will prompt members before the next MC

meeting to consider this and any other possible projects. Action PL

The next TC meeting would normally be during the Electronica show but may need to be a

conference call if Electronica is cancelled or travel restrictions are in place.

Battery charging systems and External Power supplies standards databases

Gregor Schoss had offered to review the two databases on the EPSMA website to check

whether they are still current and useful. BCS is up to date but there are some US DOE

proposed changes to test procedures for external Power supplies which could provide updates

to the database in the near future. GS provided links to the proposal information. See slides. It

seems useful to try to continue to maintain the databases.

GS also provided interesting information about the test houses involved in issuing CB

certificates for IEC 62368-1 and 61010-2-201 in 2018. See slides.

Website Update

No major changes. Member product release information is added regularly.

PL showed site usage statistics (see slides) with no significant change.

PL noted that he is making some extensive changes to the linking of documents in the

members’ area of the website and there may be some broken links which will be corrected as

soon as possible. The changes are to ensure that members’ area documents are guaranteed

to be not accessible to the public.

Page 5: European Power Supplies Manufacturers’ Association EEIG 2Q20 minutes.pdf · The next TC meeting would normally be during the Electronica show but may need to be a conference call

Q3/20 MC meeting

Q3/20 meeting will be a conference call on Tuesday 8th September provisionally 2pm CET.

It was suggested that we try Microsoft ‘Teams’ for the call. BE offered to be the host. PL and

BE will liaise nearer the date and try a ‘dry run’ to check it is workable.

It is not certain whether Electronica will take place in Munich in November so it is possible that

the Q4 MC meeting will also be a conference call.

Any other Business

GS made the MC aware of a submission by Euralarm trade association to the EC asking for

deferment of the date of withdrawal of EN 60950-1 and EN 60065 due to corona virus causing

delays in certification work for customers and test houses. The meeting felt that the EPSMA

could send a similar letter to the advantage of members. Post meeting – FV forwarded a draft

communication just received from CLC TC108X stating they have reviewed the issue and will

not change the DOW. The secretariat will therefore take no further action unless members

think it is worthwhile sending the letter anyway.
