Java Founder Gosling Quits Google For Robot Maker
Java creator James Gosling has left search engine giant Google to
become chief software architect at Liquid Robotics, a cloud-based
data service provider and maker of unmanned ocean vehicles.
In a message to eWEEK, Gosling said leaving Google was a difficult
decision, but the opportunity to work with a former Sun
Microsystems colleague on some new and interesting projects was
just too much to turn down.
Moreover, joining Liquid Robotics means Gosling will not have to
remain so close to the ongoing legal battle between Google and
Oracle over the use of Java in the Android operating system.

Samsung Backs VMware Mobile Play
Samsung has revealed it will make phones that can run VMware’s
mobile hypervisor technology
VMware’s efforts to move its virtualization technology onto mobile
handsets received a welcome boost after it was revealed that
Samsung would now use the technology.
VMware chief Paul Maritz used his keynote speech at the opening of
VMworld 2011 to outline the so-called “post PC world”, and revealed
that VMware was working on providing software for “virtual phones”.

Don't buy your iPad in a McDonald's car park
A young woman in South Carolina has had her dream of buying a
brand-new shiny iPad in the car park of a McDonald's crushed by
two swindlers, who left her with a wooden dud.
The 22-year-old saw nothing suspicious in being approached by two
men in the aforementioned car park nor in being offered an iPad for
$300.
Claiming they had bought iPads in bulk, the fraudsters enticed the
naive Apple fan by showing her an actual iPad and agreed to take
$180 for it, which was all she said she had, according to a
Spartanburg County Sheriff's report.
She was handed one of several FedEx boxes from the boot of their
car and, presumably happy and satisfied with her lovely new
purchase, she drove home without looking inside.
Imagine her chagrin when she opened the box at home only to
discover "a piece of wood painted black with an Apple logo", as the
report described it.
