European 7-Day Divine Principle Workshop (English Language)

Hotel Stefania, Amarynthos, Greece Sunday 7 October – Saturday 13 October, 2012

The Divine Principle

Already by the age of sixteen, Sun Myung Moon had received his commission through his encounters with the risen Christ and was continuing his lonely and prayerful search to find the answers to fundamental questions about life – profound insights that now form this systematic teaching know as ‘Divine Principle’.

By identifying spiritual principles that reveal the workings of God behind human history and through the world’s great religious traditions, a way is opened up to transcend traditional boundaries of race, religion and culture and move toward a truly ‘unified’ view of life wherein the spiritual and physical dimensions are harmonized.

The worldview and philosophy provided by the Principle characterises and guides the many varied projects that the Unification Movement promotes, such as its interfaith programmes and peace initiatives. As a spiritual teaching, the Divine Principle effects a positive transformation on the lives of those who hear it. To immerse oneself in serious study and discussion over seven days is a way to discover one’s own history and spiritual roots, one’s own identity and purpose as a person of faith.

Through this programme of lectures, presentations and other activities you will surely be able to reflect deeply on God’s Will in relation to your own life, as well as to the wider society and world.

Hotel Stefania (a three-star hotel) belongs to the family of an Ambassador for Peace in Greece. It is located in southern Evia, 29km from the capital Halkida and 7km from the historic town of Eretria. The hotel enjoys a sea-side location 800m from the centre of Amarynthos. It has its own private beach and various sports amenities. The accommodation is pleasant and the hotel has air-conditioning. We have used the hotel three times before, and although the standard is simple, they provide three excellent buffet-style meals a day, which caters for a wide variety of diets, and it has the advantage that we can virtually make it our own while we are there as the staff are so helpful.

For more information, do have a look at this website: http://www.golden-greece.gr/hotels/evia/kentrikh/stefania/golden-greece.html

Workshop Fee: €320 per person €250 for students under 25 years of age

It would greatly assist us if you could pay by cash on arrival or make a bank transfer to our European Office prior to the workshop.

Please note: The fee includes six nights’ accommodation and meals for the duration of the workshop. Travel to and from the workshop venue is not included.

If we collect you from or take you to the airport you may be asked to pay a small charge to cover vehicle hire and fuel (about €10 each way).

Should you wish to extend your stay in Greece, or arrive earlier, you will have to make those arrangements and cover the costs yourself.

Arrival and Departure Times

The workshop will begin with registration between 6pm and 7pm on the Sunday evening. It will end with lunch on the following Saturday, around 1.30pm. (Please use this information for planning your journeys to and from the hotel so that you can participate fully as the beginning and end of the workshop are essential parts of the experience.)

For those arriving at Athens airport, you will be directed by a staff member to begin the final stage of your journey by mini-bus. The journey takes around 1½ hours, but you may need to wait as the transport will provide a shuttle service. You will receive further information nearer the time about the details of this ground transportation, and given clear instructions and phone numbers of the hotel and workshop staff.

When planning your inbound and outbound flights it would be best to find ones that arrive before 3pm on the 7 October and leave after 6.30pm on the 13 October.

How to apply:

To apply you will need to complete the on line registration form at this link Online Registration You are encouraged to register your intention to attend the workshop as soon as possible.

The programme

Each day will begin with some optional light exercise and a time of devotion, study and prayer, drawing on a wide variety of religious texts and inspirational sources. There will be four presentations a day with time for questions and answers or group discussion at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions. There will be time for recreation after lunch each day, and a variety of evening programmes: a film night, a prayer evening, a testimony evening and evenings of games and home-grown entertainment. We will also try to include an outing on afternoon of the fifth day.

The Workshop Ethos

Many find the Workshop to be a most surprising and valuable form of religious retreat. You can take time away from the pressures of day-to-day life and reflect more on the inner life in the company of others. Participants are encouraged to embrace the schedule and treat each other as brothers and sisters – ‘One Family Under God’. We like to think of it as a journey we make together, and each participant adds something significant to the whole experience.

Non-English Speakers

If you would like to attend but are not confident that your English is good enough, please raise your concern with the person inviting you and notify our office – we can often work something out on a case-by-case basis.

Yours,

Mr. Timothy J Miller, Dr. David Hanna Vice-Chairman, UPF Europe Director, European Education Dept.
