The management of salivary disorders encompasses a broad array of both benign and malignant diseases. We felt that a detailed text addressing this topic has been needed for some time. The book begins with chapters such as diagnostic approaches based on clinical, radio-graphic, and pathologic assessment of salivary gland disorders. We have featured the role of sialendoscopy, a recently developed technique for diagnosis and treatment of obstructive diseases of the salivary glands. The benign aspects of salivary diseases in addition to the approach to management of salivary malignancies are then addressed. The problems of a unique cluster of salivary gland disor-ders in children are also included.

The main strength of this book is the group of inter-nationally known authorities who have contributed their expertise and experience in authoring definitive chapters on salivary gland disorders. Photographs and sketches are included to illustrate both the disorders and surgical techniques described. We believe this to be the most com-prehensive textbook available.

We hope this book will serve as a useful reference and a practical manual for the clinicians of many specialties who treat patients with salivary gland disorders. Whether used as an introductory or advanced referenced text, we hope the readers will find that this book contributes to their practice.

We are indebted to our editorial coordinator, Mary Jo Tutchko, for her untiring commitment and dedication to the organization and completion of this book. We also thank Charmaine D. Woods for her valuable assistance. We appreciate the foresight and support of Springer, our publisher, for enabling this text to be published in the form we envisioned. Marion M. Philipp, Senior Editor Clinical Medicine, and Irmela Bohn, Desk Editor Clini-cal Medicine, both of Springer, have been very helpful, patient, and supportive during this project and we offer our appreciation to them.
