The scriptures are breathe out by God and profitable teaching, vs 16, doctrine is a compoud word that explains the results as stated in the versesFor reprove- which is the word evidence, teaching brings evedence, conviction

For correction: when the scriptures are taught it will bring correction, it will change ones thinking and hence will produce a conduct of the word

FOR INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESSThe scriptures are full of instructions, those instructions come from the spirit of God to point us to the lifestyle we have in Christ who is our Righteousness. 2cor5:21, we have been made righteous in Him

So on the subject of Eternal security, we can only draw evedence, conviction from the scriptures only

Eternal security points to what christ accomplished for us by the work of redemption.

Page 2: Eternal Security

Students must be able to explain with the aid of the scriptures, 4gospels, book of acts and the Epistles Eternal salvation.

With a clear understanding of the past, present and future tense of salvation.

Points to aid your study:

The eternal nature of the high priest The eternal nature of the sacrifice The eternal effect of the sacrifice on the recipient

And 3 are based on the integrity of Gods word

So to understand eternal security of salvation, you must understand

THE ETERNAL NATURE OF HIS PRIESTHOOD.

The writer of the book of hebrews

Gives a comparison between the Old covenant and The New covenant.

The eternal nature of his priesthood shows he won't need to offer for sin once every year like the priest under the old covenant. His sacrifice will be once, and that's sufficient for all time, forever

Heb5:1-14Vs4: 6, 10Thou art a priest forever after the order of melchizedek(ps110:4)Under the old covenant the high priest taken from among men that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins

Vs2-3The high priest under the old covenant had to offer for his own sins also

Heb5:9 The author of eternal salvation

Hebrews6:13-20God gave a promise to abraham and confirms it with an oath

2 things show the immutability of Gods counsel,

1. The Oath2. The promise

Page 3: Eternal Security

The unchangeability of God plan for man.

Both bring a strong consolation, an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast

Vs20, the forerunner has entered within veil, Jesus made an high priest forever after the order of melchisedec.

Heb7:16, Jesus is not made an high priest after the order of carnal commandment but after the power of an endless lifeVs18, a priest forever after the order of melchisedekThe priest on the old covenant where not made priest by an oath but Jesus became the high priest by an oath, the power of an endless lifeThe priest under the old covenant couldn't continue by reason of death(v23)

Jesus has an unchangeable priesthood, (vs24)

Vs25, wherefore he is able to save to the uttermost, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

That is completely, eternally that is, foreverSo today Jesus stands surety for the believer, he is the eternal security of the believer

The word 'intercessor' refers to a guarantor, a patron, an advocate, one who stands surety

That unchangeable nature of his priesthood is a proof that we are eternally securedApostle John in his epistles calls Jesus our Advocate and the propitiation for our sins and the sins of the whole world1john2:1-2, 1john4:17-18

John10:27-29

Behold I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out from my hand

Jude, in Jude 24, Calls him the one who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy

Apostle PaulIn Romans8:28-39,Paul speaks about the intercessory work of jesus27, He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God

Page 4: Eternal Security

29- for whom he foreknew, he also did predestinate conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30, Moreover whom he did predestinate, he also called: and whom he called he also justified, and whom he justified, them he glorified. Vs31, what shall we say to these things? If God be for us( those he foreknew, predestinated, called, justified and glorified) who can be against us?32-34, God did not spare His own son,His son was delivered up for us all, how shall he not with him freely give us all things

Who can lay anything to the charge of Gods elect? Its God that justifiesVs34Who is He that condemneth? Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the Right hand of God maketh intercession for us.

That's the office of Jesus as a guarantor, a guarantee, a patron, an advocate.

35-39Because of this nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ

We are eternal bound to the image of his Son

THE ETERNAL NATURE OF HIS SACRIFICE

Heb9:11-28

12: by his blood he entered in once into the Holy place, having obtained eternal Redemption

What did he offer?Through the eternal spirit, He offered himself without spot to God24: he appear in the presence of God for us Heb10:12He offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God

THE ETERNAL EFFECT ON THE RECIPIENT.

Christ by appearing in Gods presence for us, brought about remission of sinsIt makes the conscience of the worshipper free from guilt and sinHeb10:2The conscience is purged once for allVs22: the conscience is cleansed

It brought about an eternal sanctificationHeb10:10

Page 5: Eternal Security
