ETERNAL LIFE Eternal Life is having the life of and from God. It is the absence of spiritual death. A life received and possessed now on earth from God. It is a gift and never earned by good works. It is the life of Christ. A result of life and fruit from the Spirit of God. A life that is abundant and blessed. It is a life of righteousness, goodness and faithfulness.

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life--2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us-- 1John1:1-2

He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 1John 5:12

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, 3 but at the proper time manifested, even His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior, Titus 1:2-3

But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:22-23

What is Eternal Life?Eternal Life is the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ

and is the commandment of God the Father.

What is eternal life? The common notion eternal life is the life after death in Heaven with God. Yes this is correct. This is partly correct. The Bible beginning from Genesis to the last book Revelation eternal life is dealt with. The first man Adam sinned and separated from the life of God and at the last day all who are without Christ are thrown into the Lake of Fire which is the Second Death. All throughout the messages of Jesus and the apostles eternal life is given deep emphasis. In fact this is the reason why the Son of God came. He died so that we may have eternal life. But what is eternal life? Eternal life is not just having an everlasting life with God in Paradise after death it is also having that life- the life of God, the eternal life now. Yes now and not after death only. Christ is the life- the eternal life and when we receive Him we receive that life of God and we have passed from spiritual death to life. We are no longer spiritually dead- condemned and under the wrath of God because of our sins. We must possess the life eternal now so that we may have the eternal life tomorrow after our life here on earth.

And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 “He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. 46 “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. 49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 “I KNOW THAT HIS COMMANDMENT IS ETERNAL LIFE; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”

John 12:44-50

And the testimony is this, that GOD HAS GIVEN US ETERNAL LIFE, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

Revelation 1:18

The TWO ASPECTS OF ETERNAL LIFE is we receive it now and after death: We are TALKING here the Life God gives to us who repent and believe the Lord Jesus. It matters we know WHAT is eternal life.

Eternal life in the bible has two truths we have to consider.

1. Eternal life is the Life of God now which is Christ and in Christ.

2. It is also an everlasting union with God after death.

The Life of Godbeing darkened in their understanding, excluded from the LIFE OF

GOD because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; Ephesians 4:18

Jesus is the Life of God and is the LIFEJesus said to her, “I AM the resurrection and the LIFE; he who

believes in Me will live even if he dies, John 11:25

Jesus said to him, “I AM the way, and the truth, and the LIFE; John 14:6

Colossians 3:4

and the LIFE was manifested, and we have seen and testify and pro-claim to you the ETERNAL LIFE, which was WITH the Father and was MANI-FESTED to us. 1John 1:2

SO therefore, when do we receive the LIFE OF GOD which is Christ?

NOW.

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

John 3:36

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have LIFE, and have it abundantly.

John 10:10.

What do we also receivewhen we receive and have the Life?

Righteousness of GodWe do not only receive life eternal because Christ is in us but we do receive the righteousness of God who is Christ and which is through faith in Him. We receive the life because Christ is the life and we also receive righteousness because Christ is God’s righteousness.

But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:21-26

The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. 17 For if by the transgression of the

6

Page 7: Eternal Life - Pastor larry dela cruz€¦ · Web viewWhat was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our

one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. 18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:16-21

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; 31 but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 just as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And he who believes in Him will not be disappointed." Romans 9:30-33

For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 ForChrist is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Romans 10:3-4

But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,

1Corinthians 1:30

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2Corinthians 5:21

Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. 22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Galatians 3:21-22

and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,

Philippians 3:9

Righteous Lives

Not only we were made righteous because of Christ but the life of God in us causes us to obey God and live righteous lives. We have become a new creation. We have received a new spirit and a new heart. He has given us His Spirit.

For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit…. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:3-4, 10-11

May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? …13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How Was Eternal Life Been Available For Us?

Eternal life is only possible through God alone. Man is finite and limited. He cannot save his soul. We all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Though man can fear God and do what is right he still cannot be saved by these good works. So God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross and purchase for us the salvation and eternal life. He was sent not to condemn the world but so that the world might be saved through Him. God desires all be saved and has given man a mediator between God and men. He has given Jesus as a ransom for all. God alone saves through His Son and through the work of His Spirit. He has declared all have sinned so that the righteousness of God be through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

Work of GodThey were even more astonished and said to Him, "Then who can be

saved?" 27 Looking at them, Jesus *said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God."

Mark 10:26-27

Jesus answered them and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal." 28 Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."

John 6:26-29

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death. 22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome,

Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. 16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 "But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."

John 3:14-21

namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Acts 20:28

This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

Revelation 5:9

What Happens to Believers When They Die?

The Cults teach that when believers die they don’t go straight to Heaven with God. Their soul sleeps. They await the Second Coming of Christ for the day of resurrection. Is this true? Yes it is true that our physical body shall be resurrected at the Second Coming but our soul at death does not go to sleep. The Bible is very explicit in its teachings that when we die in the Lord we leave this body and be with Him. The body return to ashes and our souls to God and the wicked to hell. Believers possess already the eternal life who is Christ. We are just transferring to another dimension to a spiritual world where God is- Paradise. This is made possible when Jesus died and rose from the dead. The thief beside Jesus at the cross said that he be remember when He comes to His Kingdom. Jesus said to the thief who believed Him, “Today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

John 3:36

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 5:24

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. John 6:47

And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

1John 5:11-13

With the LORD at Death Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord-- 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight-- 8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

2Corinthians 5:6-8

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.

Luke 23:42-43

Boasting is necessary, though it is not profitable; but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago--whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows--such a man was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know how such a man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows--4 was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak.

2Corinthians 12:1-4

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.'

Revelation 2:7

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things." 2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. 3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.

10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created."

Revelation 4:1-4, 10-11

When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels who had seven plagues, which are the last, because in them the wrath of God is finished. 2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God. 3 And they sang the song of Moses, the bond-servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God, the Almighty; Righteous and true are Your ways, King of the nations! 4 "Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For all the nations will come and worship before You, For Your righteous acts have been revealed." 5 After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened,

Revelation 15:1-5

After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; 2 because His judgments are true and righteous; for He has judged the great harlot who was corrupting the earth with her immorality, and He has avenged the blood of His bond-servants on her." 3 And a second time they said, "Hallelujah! Her smoke rises up forever and ever." 4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne saying, "Amen. Hallelujah!" 5 And a voice came from the throne, saying, "Give praise to our God, all you His bond-servants, you who fear Him, the small and the great." 6 Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

Revelation 19:1-6

The Wicked End in HellBefore Jesus resurrected from the dead the Old Testament believers at death were with Abraham. Hades or Hell has two chambers at that time. The Upper Chamber were the believers go at death and the Lower Chamber were the wicked go. When Jesus resurrected the Upper Chamber was emptied. The Old Testament Saints with Abraham awaited the resurrection of Christ and they were brought to Heaven with Him at the Day of Jesus’ Resurrection.

This Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. 24 "But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power. 25 "For David says of Him, 'I saw the Lord always in my presence; For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken. 26 'Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope; 27 Because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. 28 'You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.'

Acts 2:23-28

Therefore it says, "When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men." 9 (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)

For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

How Can We Have Eternal Life Now?

Eternal Life is of and from God. It is the Life of God. Jesus Christ is the Life- the Eternal Life. He purchased for us our redemption on the cross and has risen from the dead. Salvation is now free. Eternal life is now a gift. It has been paid for. It is a gift that we have to receive. It is a free gift of God to man. It was made possible through our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth, the Lord who made the Heavens and the Earth. He who made you humbled Himself and took the human form so that He can die and ransom us and purchase a life for us, an eternal life for us. He rose from the dead because death cannot hold Him. Now that He has risen from the dead we can now be free from death, free from spiritual and eternal condemnation. He who knew no sin became sin for us so that we may become the righteousness of God in Him. He was cursed on the cross so that we may be blessed with the Life. He came to us so that we may come to God through Him. Repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ- the Eternal life.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRISTand after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I

do to be saved?" 31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

Act 16:30-31

DO YOU HAVE:JESUS CHRISTETERNAL LIFE

WHAT TO DO:

ADMIT WE HAVE SINNED AND REPENTWe have sinned and we can't be changed by our own selves. There are things in our lives that are wrong and should make them right. We must agree with God and His word that we have sinned, on our way to Hell, and we should to repent.

BELIEVE THE GOSPEL- THE GOOD NEWSHe died for us and was raised from the dead so that we can be SAVED (Rom. 10:9). If He didn't do this, our sins could not be forgiven. Christ paid the price for our salvation and eternal life is now a Free Gift. We can now receive ETERNAL LIFE through faith in Him. He is the only way to God His Father.

CONFESS AND RECEIVE JESUS AS LORD AND SAVIOR

Confess with our mouth Jesus is Lord and receive Him as our Lord and Savior. He has risen from the dead. He is the Lord of all and everything in us. We must surrender all to Jesus’ Lordship and saving grace to have eternal life.

Romans 10:9-13“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For theScripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”

PRAYER:

BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORDAnd Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

ASSURANCE YOU NOW HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

Heavenly Father, I have sinned. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross, died for my sin and rose from the dead. Forgive me and wash me with the blood of Jesus. I am turning away from sin. I now invite Christ to sit on the throne of my heart and my life and received Him as my Lord and Savior. Thank You Father, In Jesus Name. Amen.

but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31

If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. “And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

My prayer is the same that of Paul's.

praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak. Colossians 4:3-4
