A SOCIAL housing project in Castlemilk has been named Development of the Year at this year’s Herald Property Awards for Scotland in association with SP Energy Networks. The 130 home community, made up of flats and houses and designed to adapt to the changing needs of residents, was built by Glasgow Housing Association, which is part of Wheatley Group. It was the second win of the night for the group, which had earlier, along with its Lowther Homes division, seen its redevelopment of the former Govan Tram Depot in Glasgow’s Harvie Street named as Best Regeneration Project. Calum Miller, Associate Director for new Homes with Rettie & Co, who sponsored the Development of the Year category, praised Glasgow Housing Association for its win, saying: “The standard of entry was incredibly high this year, I’m sure the judges had a lengthy debate in coming to an overall winner.” And there were words of praise too from Phil Prentice, Chief Officer, Scotland’s Towns Partnership, which sponsored the Best Regeneration Project award. He said: “It was wonderful to be part of such a high profile and positive event showcasing all the best of Scotland’s Property Industry and congratulations to Glasgow Housing Association and Lowther Homes for winning the best regeneration category.” Other winners on the night included Avant Homes, which won in the Best Show Home and Best Luxury Home categories with its Rosebury and Westbury properties; Westpoint Homes, which was awarded Best Apartment title for its Scholars Court development in Newton Mearns and also lifted the Individual New Build our Small Development title for its Ranfurly View development in Bridge of Weir; and CALA Homes (East) which saw its Melville property at Waverley Heights in Balerno named Best Large Family Home and receive a commendation in the Best Show Home category.
