Introduction

ISIE-Electric solar vehicle championship is Asia’s largest solar championship. We

aim to build student’s interest in Renewable source of energy. Our focus is to

develop interest among the engineering student towards alternative power sources,

which are the future of Automobiles. This can enhance their practical skills as well

they can learn team management, so our engineering student will avail to face any

hurdles in the way of real engineering.

ESVC is a design and manufacturing of solar racing car event under ISIE Design

Restriction so as to compete with other teams all over the country. Teams will use

Electric motor to run their Vehicle. This will help them face real-world engineering

design projects and other related challenges. Our focus to develop interest among

the engineering student towards alternative power sources, those which are the future

of Automobiles.

B. General information and rules

B1. Scope:

B1.1. The scope of the Electric-Solar Vehicle Championship (An Indian Solar

Challenge) is to stimulate research into, and development of, sustainable

transport, meaning that the ESVC is primarily a design competition.

B1.2. The regulatory philosophy is to provide the parameters upon which to base

the design, rather than specify exactly how each is to be achieved. Science

and technology evolve and to encourage the most innovative ideas, so too do

the event requirements.

B2. History of ESVC:

B2.1. This Innovative initiative taken in 2013, and we organized Electric-Solar

vehicle championship at Lovely Professional University, Punjab. ESVC held

every year from 2013 in different state and Universities.

B2.2. ESVC 2013-2014: In 2013-2014 ESVC organized very first time in Asia, we

got very great response for this most innovative Event. 76 teams including

NIT and top Universities/colleges participated in this event.

B2.3. ESVC 2014-2015: In 2014-2015 event was organized in MM University,

Haryana. ESVC’15 appreciated by Industries, Professors and Media (Top

News Chanel and New Paper). ESVC 2014-2015, 92 teams participated and

52 teams successfully manufactured their Dream Solar Car. Teams from 17

states of India and Teams from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka also take part in this

green event.

to prevent disqualifications.

E4. Innovation and best design awards

E4.1. It is a static round. Our judges will check the team’s design skills and new

ideas. Judges may question anyone in the teams regarding their vehicle’s

design and innovation.

E4.2. It is not a compulsory round however points from this round will be used to

calculate the overall winners. Each award carries a maximum of 100 points.

E4.3. Since it is static round it will be held right after the technical inspection.

E4.4. Teams are advised to prepare separate reports for each of the awards, so that

it will be easy for the judges to evaluate.

E5. Brake and Acceleration:

E5.1. Brake Test- All the Vehicles have to pass the brake test to participate in any

of the dynamic events. The Vehicle must stop in a straight line after the

brake is applied on the Vehicle. Each Vehicle will be given 3 attempts to

pass the brake test. But in case if the Vehicle passes the test in first attempt it

will not be given any other trials.

E5.2. Brake Test does not have any points, but it is mandatory for the teams to

qualify this round to participate in the dynamic round.

E5.3. Acceleration Test: The acceleration event evaluates the Vehicle’s

acceleration in a straight line on flat pavement.

E5.4. Procedure: The cars will accelerate from a standing start over a distance of

50 m on a flat surface. The foremost part of the Vehicle will be staged at

exactly behind the starting line. The time taken to accelerate would be

measured.

E5.5. Scoring: The acceleration score is based upon the corrected elapsed time.

Elapsed time will be measured from the time the car crosses the starting line

until it crosses the finish line.

each DOO (including entry and exit gate cones) that occurred on that

particular run to give the corrected elapsed time.

E5.8. Did Not Attempt (DNA): If the Vehicle did not attempt or if it does not

complete the event, then those teams would receive DNA.

E6. Cross-Pad Round:

braking abilities of the vehicles.

E6.4. If the vehicle is unable to start, it will not be allowed to participate in this

rounds.

E6.5. Vehicle should reach the finish line with in 100 sec. Teams with least time to

points. Teams with maximum points will be lined up in the beginning.

E8.4. Each stage will have separate criteria for scoring.

E8.5. Teams use any driver of their choice. Even they can change their driver in the

middle of the race any number of time but they should do it in a specific are

that are meant for it. No extra time will be given to change the driver.

E8.6. In case of break down they have to restart where they have stopped the

vehicle.

E8.7. If any team found, not following any or ignoring judge’s command they will

be disqualified immediately.

E8.8. Other than drivers only two members are allowed in the arena.

E8.9. Flags and its meaning are given in the table below. Drivers who does not

using their solar and battery power combined.

E9.2. Total number of laps cover will be noted as LA.

E9.3. If the vehicle stops due to mechanical failure then 15 min will be given to start

the vehicle. If the vehicle cannot start in 15 minutes, the vehicle will not be

allowed to run further in this stage and number of laps covered will considered

final. The vehicle will also be disqualified for the stage B.

E9.4. If the vehicles halts because of low battery then they can move their vehicle

to side of the road to charge the batteries only with solar energy. Batteries

charging level indicator should indicate low, otherwise it will be considered

as a mechanical failure then the rules in the article D7.3 will be followed.

E9.5. On completing this stage the vehicle has to move their solar electric vehicle

to specific arena to charge their batteries with solar energy. All the teams will

be given one hour to charge their batteries with solar energy.

E10. Endurance round (stage B)

E10.1. Endurance round B will check the efficiency of the solar system.

The vehicles have to drive only using solar energy without

connecting to batteries. If they could drive with solar energy they

are eligible for case 1 or they will be considered in case 2. Where in

case 2 only power output will be checked and by using ‘power to

weight ratio’ value, scores will be given. Overall maximum point

for endurance B is 275 Points.

E10.2. Case 1

Vehicle’s speed will be calculated. Team’s vehicle has to drive at

least 40 meters of distance or else will not be considered in case 1.

The range for this round is from 275 to 200. Here vehicles velocity

will be calculated for scoring. Team with maximum velocity will be

the winner of this round. It is team decision that whether they want

to remove the battery or not. But battery should be totally

disconnected from any electrical circuit and should be visible to

judges. All other components that are fitted during the technical

inspection have to be placed in this round.

E11.2. Driver has to drive the vehicle for about 1 Hour. Laps covered will be noted

as LC.

E11.3. This round is to check the speed of the vehicle. With new batteries they have

to drive for 1 hour and finish as many laps as possible. The laps will be

counted as LC.
