RenewMyChurch:ReceivingtheWillofGod All parishioners of our Lemont Parish Grouping are invited to attend an Announcement Meeting on Friday,November8that7:00p.m. , at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church. Bishop Andrew Wypych will host the meeting and share the outcome of this week’s RMC Commission and Presbyteral Council meetings, where they will have determined the best future structure for our parishes. As a reminder, our Lemont Grouping Feedback & Discernment Team presented to the Executive Committee of the Renew My Church Commission a feedback summary report on Oct. 22nd. It was a very good discussion about the local realities of our parishes and communities. Following that presentation: The Executive Committee forms a recommendation for the full Renew My Church Commission. The Commission convenes and discusses the recommendation, ensuring that the Grouping Team’s feedback and the foundational principles for structural viability and vitality have been fully considered. Per Canon Law (i.e., Church law), the Commission forwards the recommendation to the Presbyteral Council (an elected body of priests) for their consultation with Cardinal Cupich. The Cardinal discusses the recommendation with the Presbyteral Council and after this consultation, the Cardinal makes a inal decision. Please continue to pray for Cardinal Cupich, our bishops, the Presbyteral Council, our Lemont Grouping of St. Alphonsus Church, Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church, St. James Church, St. Patrick Church, St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School, Ss. Cyril & Methodius School and the lay faithful who are leading the work of renewal within our Archdiocese.

ChurchUnderRepair… For the past few weeks, we’ve had equipment and scaffolding located around our St. Alphonsus Church bell tower. We are in the process of repairing the masonry of the bell tower and other areas of the church. The necessary repairs will probably be completed by the end of the month. We ask for your patience as we continue to improve our beautiful St. Alphonsus Church building! AnointingoftheSickMassI just wanted to offer a inal reminder that our annual Lemont Catholic AnointingoftheSickMass will be held at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church on Saturday,Nov.9that11:00a.m.. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be offered to anyone with chronic illness, those who are scheduled for surgery, those dealing with emotional challenges or older persons, even if they are not suffering from a serious illness. Anyone who would like to receive the sacrament of healing is invited to attend.

Welcome Guests and Visitors. . . We’re so glad that you’re here and invite you to join us in thanksgiving for God’s action in our lives. Our goal is to provide a spiritual home where all are welcome, where the healing, reconciling, liberating love of God flows through us to all people. In this way, we believe that the Church is the sacrament of God’s saving presence in the world.

“Please come to Mass early enough not to disrupt. Leave late enough not to insult (the Mass does not end until the final blessing).

Worship reverently enough not to distract. Dress proudly enough not to offend.”

Helpful Outreach for People seeking Employment (HOPE) Ministry Next Meeting: Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at 7:00 PM

Location: St. Elizabeth Seton, Orland Hills, IL (O’Mara Hall) There will be three presentations on the following topics: Networking Methods, Hidden Jobs,

and Career Transition/Transferrable Skills The HOPE Employment Support Ministry meets monthly and provides job search guidance for the unemployed and those in career transition. Meetings include a review of each attendee’s status and speakers who address various job search topics.

HOPE is open to the public, free of charge and we invite job seekers, employers and HOPE Alumni.

JOURNEY OF HOPE THANKS ST. ALPHONSUS We are a ministry in both this parish and at Calvary. We have members of our team who belong to various churches in the area. St. Alphonsus has a reputation for generosity, and that was on display at our Bake Sale fundraiser last Sunday. We had a huge selection of baked goods donated, and generous donations for those goods… to the tune of nearly $1,000. It was the final purchase made by Fr. Brian for his nieces that put us over the $1,000 mark. With these funds, we will be able to broaden our offerings at our monthly support group gatherings, and will give us the ability to better respond to material needs of cancer patients and caregivers in our community. Thank you, and God bless you for your support and prayers.

NO SESSIONS THIS WEEK… NOV. 3RD & 6TH. FIRST RECONCILATION PARENT MEETING Tuesday, 11/12 at 7:00 P.M. in the Church Hall All parents of children preparing for the sacrament (RE, St. Al’s/St. Pat’s, Everest Academy) are expected to attend to discuss the preparation and celebration of the sacrament of Reconciliation.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS Our 2nd Graders have begun their preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To illustrate the reality of Jesus taking all of humanity’s sin upon himself on the cross (even up to today) so that we might live, Mrs. Christine’s class nailed their sins to a cross.

IT’S A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE It’s funny how RE sessions and going to Mass can seem like an inconvenience, yet we put up with so much more when it comes to sports and other activities. Is going to RE and Mass just another activity amongst many? KEEPING YOUR KIDS CATHOLIC TIP Whether or not one remains Catholic as an adult is determined by whether the individual attended Mass as a child and teenager, finds a recent Pew Forum poll. Says Archbishop Donald Wuerl, “Adolescence is a critical time in religious development…We have to help young people and their parents appreciate the importance of going to weekly Mass so teenagers know Jesus is there for them now and always.” The Executive Summary of the study can be read at http://pewforum.org/docs/?DocID=409. A child attending RE class is not the same as attending Mass. Please do not drop your child off for RE then attend Mass without your child. Although he may not seem to be paying attention, learning and faith- building are taking place. Allow her to feel that she belongs to the worshipping community of St. Alphonsus.

Lemont Catholic Anoin ng of the Sick Bilingual Mass

On Saturday, November 9th SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish will

celebrate the Anointing of the Sick at the 11 AM Mass. This will be a bilingual (English-Polish) Mass. We extend an invitation to those in our Lemont Catholic Family who feel that the Celebration of Anointing will provide help for them in sickness and in the aging of their bodies. In the past, the anointing was done near the time of death. Theology today understands anointing as the Sacrament of the Sick rather than at the time of approaching death. The Anointing of the Sick is the prayer of Christ and His Church for the physical and spiritual health of the sick person. Who may be anointed? A sick person may be anointed before he/she

undergoes surgery, whether or not the surgery is serious.

Persons with chronic illness. Older persons, even if they are not suffering from

dangerous illness. Mentally disabled persons and chemically

dependent persons. A sick child may be anointed in order to be

comforted and uplifted by the Sacrament. After the Mass, there will be a luncheon for all those who attend in the Parish Life Building meeting room. In order for us to prepare for this luncheon, we ask that you RSVP by calling Trish at 630-257-2776 or emailing her at [email protected] before Wednesday, October 30. We hope you can join us for food and fellowship!
