Rub-Off#is a classic, soft & supple embossed rub-off hide that is mainly associated with deep buttoned furniture such as Chesterfields.Average size of hide: 48ft2 (4.46m2) Thickness: 0.9/1.1mm

#After the hide is upholstered, the dark, thin top coat must be rubbed off to give the required antique effect then it must be spray sealed with the appropriate lacquer. All rub-off solution and lacquer details are available on request. This leather is subject to colour change in use. A more careful maintenance and understanding of this type of leather is required by the customer to ensure that the leather is fit for purpose. Fire tests for certification are to be performed by you after the sealant lacquer has been applied.

A Water Buffalo hide has been especially selected for this range to give it a unique and more exotic appearance. The grain, growth lines and other natural characteristics are more visible than cowhide’s grain and gives it a more special, natural look.

SAMPLINGWe recognise the importance of a speedy sampling service and we have swatch cards, books and individual samples of all the leathers shown in this collection, readily available for immediate despatch to you or your customer. They, along with the colour samples in this collection, are for colour reference and finish and should be regarded as no more than a guide as colours naturally may vary from batch to batch.

FOR ALL ANILINE ORDERS – As a standard procedure, we strongly recommend that we send you a “Cutting for Approval” (CFA) upon order and before shipment as our current stock may vary in colour, texture, sheen and finish from the samples you have seen or received.

AVAILABILITYPlease check the availability of your chosen range & colour with our sales team. We reserve the right to change the range and discontinue colours. Should this very unlikely event happen, we will always offer an alternative.

DELIVERIESTo enhance our commitment to our clients, we stock all of the leathers shown in this brochure. Orders received before 2pm can be despatched on the same day (subject to availability & status). Collections are available by appointment only and very welcome.

We advise that all our leathers are checked carefully on receipt for suitability, colour and quality. We cannot accept any claims once the leather has been cut into or marked. On the rare occasion that any leather is to be returned, please call us first as there may be a handling/re-stocking fee applicable.

Our hides normally range in size from 4m2 – 5.5m2 averaging 4.46m2 (48ft2). Naturally, every hide varies in size so the above illustration above is only a guide to the shape and size of a typical hide. The average usable area depends on the pattern sizes you require. Please call us if you require further advice.

TYPES OF UPHOLSTERY LEATHERThere are 4 main types of upholstery leather; Aniline, Nubuck, Semi-Aniline & Pigmented. Each type will perform differently.

ANILINEAll Aniline leathers are delicate and sensitive hides that are dyed through. Some Aniline leathers may have no protective coating at all yet others may have only a light surface finish/protection leaving a very natural feel and appearance that will age beautifully over time but are also more vulnerable to marking, scratching and fading. The surface coating, if it has one, is not pigmented in any way. Nature’s markings are part of the appeal of this type of leather and should be appreciated. Healed scars, bug bites, neck & belly wrinkles all contribute to the character of these very elegant leathers. Colour variation is a natural characteristic of any Aniline leather and colours will vary from hide to hide and dye-lot to dye-lot. When pulled, stretched or used in tightly upholstered applications, expect the colour and sheen to vary on pull-up and distressed leathers. Anilines are not as colourfast as Pigmented hides. Prolonged exposure to light and heat will cause Aniline leathers to fade. A more careful maintenance and understanding of this type of leather is required by the customer to ensure that the leather is fit for purpose. Please check that an Aniline leather will be suitable for your requirements.

NUBUCKA top-grain Aniline leather that has been buffed or sanded on the grain side, to give a slight nap of short protein fibres, producing a velvet-like surface. Nubuck is an unprotected leather and is more subject to staining than an Aniline due to the brushed fibres. A more careful maintenance and understanding of this type of leather is required by the customer to ensure that the leather is fit for purpose.

SEMI-ANILINEThese hides are dyed through and then given a light pigment coating. This maintains the natural look, luxurious touch and also makes the leather more durable and easier to care for than an Aniline.

PIGMENTEDThese hides undergo the same processes as Aniline and Semi-Aniline leather, but are then given additional pigmented finishes and treatments to enhance the yield and durability to make the leather easier to clean and maintain.

UPHOLSTERY TEST STANDARDSThe leathers within this collection are produced by some of the most sophisticated tanneries in the world. They have endured many tests and meet the British & European standards for domestic upholstery leather use. This includes the cigarette and match requirements of the Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 that have been tested at UKAS approved laboratories. For all other environments please contact us with your specifications and to discuss your requirements before placing an order. We will always try our best to find a suitable leather.

CRIB 5 (CONTRACT FIRE TREATMENT)We have teamed up with one of the country’s leading flame proofers to provide all of our crib 5 treatment at a very competitive price. All our leathers are able to be treated to this standard. We pride ourselves in being one of the very few companies that can supply a certificate for every treated batch to ensure that all your leather meets the required tests, when tested in combination with the appropriate foam.

QUALITYAll our tanneries are committed to quality and meet the BS EN ISO 9001 standards.

ENVIRONMENTWildman & Bugby buy from responsible, reliable and sustainable sources with all due care and attention and would never knowingly buy from tanneries that mistreat animals in any way. The hides we buy are a by-product from the meat industry and fully traceable back to the tannery who declare that the leathers they supply us have been treated, tanned and are suitable for upholstery purposes. All their leathers comply with the strict regulations and EU Directives covering the use and presence of PCP, CFC, Chrome VI and Azo dyestuffs during the tanning process and also produce their leather to conform to the REACH regulations.

Wildman & Bugby Ltd take our environmental responsibility seriously. We are always looking at ways to improve our environmental sustainability and consider the environment in every business activity we do to prevent or minimise waste and recycle where possible.

CARE OF YOUR LEATHERTo give you years of enjoyment from your leather furniture, please observe the following:

ALL UPHOLSTERY LEATHER • Avoid exposing your furniture to direct sunlight or direct heat.

• Avoid sharp objects such as studs, buckles and zips coming into contact with the furniture.

• Dust and vacuum your furniture regularly.

• Leathers these days do not need to be fed and the use of saddle soap or wax polishes should be avoided, especially spray polishes.

• Use of general household cleaning products, chemicals and abrasives are not recommended as they can break down the protective surface and cause damage.

• Do not use any method or product not recommended by the manufacturer.

SEMI-ANILINE & PIGMENTED INSTRUCTIONS • Wipe off stains and spills immediately with a soft, lightly damp

cloth taking care not to soak the leather.

ANILINE & NUBUCK INSTRUCTIONS • Spills should be blotted immediately with an absorbent dry cloth.

Do not rub.

Please note: Lighter colours of leather will be more prone to staining.

Leather is a 100% natural product. Each hide is truly unique and individual bearing the distinctive marks and characteristics of its natural origin which will vary from hide to hide. These are its beauty and give leather its authenticity, luxurious good looks, style, comfort, long lasting durability and will develop a patina over time.
