Jon Erwin began his film career in his teens, working alongside his brother, Andrew, as a camera operator for ESPN. Jon Erwin soon became a freelance camera operator for ESPN, and with his brother, began producing industrial, corporate, and music videos; and eventually feature films under their com-pany, Erwin Brothers Entertainment. The Erwin brothers want to use their voice in Hollywood to share stories of hope and redemption, and to tell stories that have the power to change lives. Jon looks to share his faith with the world through entertainment.

In 2011, the Erwin Brothers first theatrical feature film, “October Baby,” took a chance in Hollywood in telling the story of an abortion survivor, inspired by real-life survivor Gianna Jessen. The film went on to be a surprise box office success, and 10 percent of the movie’s profits go into a fund called Every Life is Beautiful to help pregnancy resource centers, adoption agencies, and those caring for orphans.

Jon’s breakout moment came in 2017 with the Erwin Brothers film, “I Can Only Imagine,” based on the story behind the band MercyMe’s song of the same name, the best-selling Christian single of all time. The movie went on to gross more than $80 million, earning the 2018 GMA Dove Award for Inspirational Film of the Year and was nominated for a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Family Movie of 2018.

The Erwin Brothers and their productionpartner, Kevin Downes, recently formed a Christian production company called Kingdom. They hope to supply a steady stream of faith-based films to the marketplace and to help other Christian filmmakers with similar goals through their new film company. Jon wants to create a path for people of faith in the entertainment industry and today Jon Erwin stands out in Hollywood, proving that faith-based movies are making waves at the box office and helping to raise moral standards in terms of what kind of content families want to see in theaters.

The journey of this family to EPS began nearly 30 years ago with the loss of Lisa Goldsmith’s first child due to a miscarriage. While looking for a way to turn their suffering into something positive, Lisa’s mother, Barbara Gray, began volunteering as a receptionist at EPS and dedicating herself to the pro-life mission.

Inspired by her mother’s work, Lisa started volunteering after her children had grown, taking on various roles including receptionist and joining the EPS Auxiliary. Her husband, Bob, volunteers his time as a current member of the EPS Board of Directors. Lisa is also joined by her sister, Kelly Epperson, who volunteer’s in the boutique at the EPS Benson Center.

This family’s work for EPS took an even more meaningful turn after Bob and Lisa’s daughter, Erika Choquette, and her husband, Spencer, lost their baby girl, Saige, at only nine days old in October of 2017. Looking for a way to navigate through their grief, Erika and Spencer have chosen to give selflessly to the work and mission of EPS. In November of 2017, Erika began to volunteer as a testing advocate and then as a volunteer nurse. Most recently she joined the EPS team as a part-time staff nurse.

Additionally, Erika and Spencer have chosen to carry out Saige’s legacy by creating “Saige’s Fund” in memory of their daughter. Saige’s Fund helps support EPS’ semiannual baby showers as well as creates a means for preg-nant women in crisis situations to apply for larger items needed to care for their babies, such as cribs and car seats.

This family’s dedication and loyalty to EPS now spans three generations and their impact on staff and clients is a blessing. We are proud to honor them with the 2019 Spirit of EPS Award.

The mission of EPS is founded upon the principle of upholding the dignity of all persons - born and unborn - through compassionate care for pregnant and parenting women and families in a safe environment, empowering women to make educated and informed decisions regarding the lives of their unborn children. EPS’ services include: pregnancy testing, STI screening, limited obstetric ultrasounds, professional counseling, resource and educational classes, material assistance, and the provision of community resource connections for housing, adoption, health care services and more.

dedicated to life MATTHEW 25:31-46

EPS is transparent in its provision of services for women and families. EPS provides accurate testing and factual education and information to clients, empowering them to make life-affirming and informed decisions about their pregnancies. EPS faces the immediate reality and obstacles that each woman faces head on, with a problem solving, community connected approach to their very real issues. No woman leaves EPS without a clear understanding of how EPS can help her and what other resources are available to help her in the community.

honest & authentic MATTHEW 22:15-22

Every human life has dignity and worth and is deserving of the utmost respect. EPS provides free services in a non-judgmental, safe, confidential and professional atmosphere. All clients will be loved and supported no matter what situations they face and the choice they make regarding the outcome of their pregnancy.

respectful JOHN 4:1-15

EPS strives to equip women and men with the necessary tools to be successful in life and as parents. Beginning Essentials is an education and support program for mothers and fathers. This program is an “earn while you learn” directive that allows clients to earn credits which are used to purchase material items for themselves and their child. Every piece of the Beginning Essentials curriculum is directed at having an applicable impact in the lives of EPS clients. Life skills, higher education preparation, and important mentoring relationships that build lasting community are the backbone of the Beginning Essentials program. EPS also offers con-fidential, counseling and crisis services to clients experiencing emotional and relationship concerns.

excellence in our works MATTHEW 22:37-38

At EPS, it is an honor to serve. It is the greatest gift to be the helping hand that is extended in a time of need. Women trust EPS staff with their most difficult challenges, and those challenges are met with love, under-standing, education, and real-life problem solving. EPS clients are never judged, but rather celebrated for the courage it takes to face their strug-gle. And at EPS these struggles are met with hope and encouragement.
