Rationale and expectations
Students enrolled in Advanced Placement Spanish are required to complete the summer assignments prior to the start of class in August. Summer assignments reflect the rigor of the course to prepare students for success in the class, to assess their incoming levels, and to continue the development of more advanced communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as will be necessary on the Collegeboard AP exam.
Throughout the summer, students are encouraged to maintain exposure to the target language through any means possible, including listening to Spanish newscasts, radio or television shows, Spanish subtitles or audio on videos or movies, music, putting social media or other technology on Spanish settings, community outreach, etc. When language becomes personalized and pervasive, we learn more quickly and authentically!
It is imperative that students be aware of expectations and format of the course, the exam, as well as the reward for successful scoring on the exam. At your leisure, please investigate the following links to more information:

- The “PARA REALIZAR” work will be due by - JULY 31st (but it is highly preferred that you turn them
in throughout the summer!!!) At the end of Fall Semester, the summer assignment will count as a 100% for your lowest test grade, pending quality and completion. (Believe me, you’ll want to do it… because AP Spanish multiple choice test grades be like…..una muerte ligera.)
- Please complete all “PARA REALIZAR” work on a single Google document that you provide me shared
access to WITH PERMISSION TO COMMENT! and EMAIL TO Sra. Morrow at [email protected]. New school E-mail is [email protected].
Email me at [email protected] or do a Google search if you are inexperienced with using Google Drive. It will be our sole electronic platform for work for this class.

*** Free-response note: You may use online dictionaries to assist with vocabulary; my top recommendation is www.wordreference.com, as it has extensive examples of the context of the word you are looking for, including discussion forums that help tremendously for specific phrases or jargon. However, with honor code in effect, be sure that all work is yours and not the result of a translator! The truth will always reveal itself eventually. Using a translator benefits neither your language acquisition process, nor your academic standing, nor our morale.
- The “PARA ESTUDIAR” material will be assessed with a quiz (30% of grade weight category in AP) within the
first week of school. This will cover the vocabulary and map/culture sections only.

2. Usa la información que leíste sobre el mundo hispanohablante para preparar una presentación de 2 minutos (exacto) que aborda la pregunta en la caja verde. Puedes usar estas páginas como inspiración para ideas, y después pensar en si algo similar ocurre en los EEUU o en tu país de origen para hacer una comparación. Esta se llama una “comparación cultural,” y es la última parte de la respuesta libre en el examen AP. Recomiendo que uses el bosquejo dibujado en la foto para crear tu presentación y para que puedas comparar y contrastar efectivamente. ***Aunque la grabación NO tiene que ser memorizada, es mejor que uses el bosquejo en vez de escribir un guión completo porque solamente tendrás 4 minutos para preparar durante el examen real.
