Affirmative Informal Commands
Español 1: Capítulo 6
Remember these?
We learned a few commands with these: ¡Bésame! (“Kiss me!”)
¡Abrázame! (“Hug me!”)
To tell someone you address as tú to do something, we use an Informal Affirmative Command.
Let’s break down this long name for a grammar topic…
“Informal” – you would address them with the
informal tú
“Affirmative” – you want this person to do the
action
“Command” – the form that the verb takes in
Spanish when you tell someone to do something
To form an Informal Affirmative Command…
1. Conjugate for “tú” in the present tense
2. Drop the “-s”
The exclamation points are for emphasis. You don’t always need them
Hablar – to talk
Hablas – you talk
¡Habla! – talk!
Important: This means that if your verb is a stem-changer, it will keep its stem change in the command form.Pedir (e -> i)
