The HKEx has announced changes to its Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide (the “Guide”) and related Listing Rules. These include upgrading the General Disclosures under each aspect of the Guide to "comply or explain", effective for issuers' financial years commencing on or after 1 January 2016, and upgrading the Key Performance Indicators, or KPIs, in the "Environmental" Subject Area to "comply or explain", effective for issuers' financial years commencing on or after 1 January 2017. To help members better prepare for these new requirements, the Chamber, along with SW Corporate Services Group Limited and Ernst & Young, has published the ESG Reporting Handbook 2016 for members and other issuers and has organised a seminar to introduce this handbook.

In this seminar, the Speakers will walk us through the key steps in ESG reporting: from setting up the ESG working group, stakeholder engagement, materiality assessment, information collection, to actually writing the ESG report. The Speakers will also share with us their experience in assurance and the roles of outside consultants in assisting issuers to comply with these latest ESG reporting requirements.

Dr. Maurice Wai-fung Ngai Director & CEO SW Corporate Services Group Limited
Dr Ngai has over twenty years’ experience in the areas of corporate secretarial, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and internal control. He has led IPOs, M&As, equity and debt financings for listed companies and serves both local and international clients, some of which are Fortune 500 companies.
Maurice received his Ph.D. from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He is a fellow and the immediate past President of The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries. He holds membership in other professional bodies including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in UK, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute.
An Adjunct Professor of Law at the Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and a member of the Working Group on Professional Services under the Economic Development Commission of Hong Kong, Maurice has recently been appointed a Finance Expert Consultant by the Chinese Ministry of Finance.
A corporate governance advocate, he is a regular speaker on governance related subjects in Hong Kong and the Mainland.
Mr. Ivan Tong Partner, Climate Change & Sustainability Services Ernst & Young
Mr. Ivan Tong has over 20 years working experiences in financial, banking and auditing services. He is the ACCA certified accountant and HKICPA certified accountant. Mr. Ivan Tong used to provide central government-led enterprises and industry leaders with services in financial auditing, PE investment advisory, assets valuation for merger and acquisition, IPO listings and other financial model advisory services.
With over 6-year experiences in sustainability services, Ivan chairs the principal partner of Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) of EY China. Services include sustainability reporting, pre-investment screening and due diligence, post-investment ESG advisory and risk strategy advisory, investment portfolio analysis and green bond issuance and marketization. The major clients include banks, investment institutions, stock exchanges and corporate financial investment departments in China and overseas. He also has rich experience in other industries including manufacturing, power and energy, ICT, clean technology, aviation, and etc.
Mr. Brian CK Ho Sustainability Leader (China South, Hong Kong and Macau) Ernst & Young
Mr. Brian Ho is the Sustainability Leader (China South, Hong Kong and Macau) of Climate Change and Sustainability Services at EY. He has more than twelve years extensive experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability, and provides strategic consulting services to corporations, governmental agencies and non- profit organizations. He is the one of the leading CSR professionals in China and plays a major role in actively building the sustainability ecosystem for Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Brian is the guest researcher at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and Sun Yat-sen University, and lectures at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining EY, Brian was the China Director of an international agency promoting CSR in the Asia Pacific region. He received his Bachelor of Social Sciences from City University of Hong Kong and Master of Social Sciences from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
