Supported by Leeds Rhinos and staged at Butlin’s award winning resort in Skegness and Haven’s Cala Gran Holiday Park in Blackpool, the Rhinos Challenge offers a unique touring experience for youth rugby teams of all abilities.
Following a record year in 2015, with more teams than ever joining us on tour, it’s all set to be another fantastic year at the 2016 Rhinos Challenge. To cope with the huge demand, we’ve booked the whole resort at Butlin’s Skegness exclusively to stage the 2016 festival. In addition, we’re delighted to be staging a new festival at Haven’s Cala Gran Holiday Park in Blackpool, in June 2016. We’re sure this new festival will prove to be an extremely popular addition for our teams.
The Rhinos Challenge is a professionally organised rugby league festival, that brings U8 - U15 boys teams together for a fantastic weekend of rugby and fun.
The festival is organised by Leeds Rhinos & ESF Events. Every aspect of the game, its safety and ethos, will be upheld to the highest standards and the festival will be organised in accordance with the guidelines and regulations of the RFL.
All participating teams are involved in an exciting two day festival. The group stages take place on the Saturday, with the final group standings determining if your team go on to compete in the Rhinos Challenge Finals, Shield or Bowl competition on the Sunday.
Following the final matches on the Sunday, our spectacular celebrity presentation ceremony takes place in front of a packed auditorium. With dramatic sound and lighting effects, celebrity guests and awards for every player, it’s a night to remember for everyone involved.
All teams are accommodated at Butlin’s in Skegness or Cala Gran in Blackpool for the weekend - they’re the perfect base for an action packed tour. Both holiday centres are safe and secure, offer quality accommodation, and have a fantastic range of facilities to keep your touring party entertained throughout the weekend.

Tom Briscoe, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Rob Burrow, Keith Senior, Stevie Ward, Ben Jones-Bishop and Ronnie the Rhino have all made special guest appearances in recent years.
All players receive a quality medal as a memento of the Rhinos Challenge. In addition, there are superb Champions trophies for the winning team in each age section, along with the Rhinos Challenge Man of Steel award.

13 - 16 MAY 2016 2015 was an incredible year for the Rhinos Challenge in Skegness, with the festival selling out and 3000 people joining us on tour. 2016 is set to be even bigger and better as we have exclusive use of Butlin’s for the weekend. Over 150 teams and 6000 people will join us, making it the biggest rugby league festival in the World!
It’s not hard to see why so many teams are queuing up to join us at the Rhinos Challenge in Skegness. Butlin’s Skegness is without doubt one of the very best holiday resorts around. It’s the perfect combination for an action packed tour and a fantastic weekend of rugby and fun. 17 - 20 JUNE 2016 Following the unprecedented demand we experienced in 2015, we’re delighted to be expanding the Rhinos Challenge in 2016 to allow even more teams to participate. When searching for a new location to stage the festival, we simply couldn’t resist the pull of the UK’s most popular seaside resort. With the Golden Mile, Blackpool Tower, the Pier and the amazing Pleasure Beach Theme Park, Blackpool is crammed with thrills and excitement – It’s the perfect base for an action packed team tour.
All teams will be accommodated at Haven’s Cala Gran Holiday Park for the duration of the festival. Cala Gran offers a great range of sports and leisure facilities, a full family entertainment package and quality accommodation. Located just 6 miles from Blackpool centre, and with a regular bus service into town from right outside Haven main entrance, and a local tram station just around the corner, travelling into Blackpool centre is a breeze. After an exciting day of action at the pitches, a fun filled Saturday night out in Blackpool will no doubt be a tour highlight for many teams!

HOW TO BOOK 1. Make a Provisional Booking - Call ESF Events and, subject to availability, we will reserve your club a place for 2 weeks free of charge.
2. Register Your Club - Complete and return the Club Registration Form (Page 14) with the Initial Deposit Payment of £250 per age group, or call ESF Events to register your team over the phone. You will then be sent a receipt of entry and your accommodation booking information. The £250 Initial Deposit Payment will be refunded once your team(s) have booked their accommodation in full.
3. Book Accommodation - Once the club is registered you will be sent your accommodation booking information. Book your accommodation with a deposit of £30pp by the accommodation booking deadline, which is normally 3 weeks after you register your team(s). You will then be advised of your final balance, which will be due 56 days prior to your tour.
IMPORTANT: Accommodation for your whole party, including players, families, coaches and supporters, must be booked through ESF Events. If members of your party do not book their accommodation through ESF Events, the team will not be permitted to participate in the Rhinos Challenge.
FESTIVAL FORMAT The Rhinos Challenge will be played under the Rules and Regulations of the RFL.
TOUR ITINERARY Friday - No rugby is played on the day of arrival. Accommodation units will be available from 4pm but teams can arrive on resort from Midday and use the facilities at Butlin’s and Haven. There will be a full evening entertainment programme on the Friday. Our welcome meeting for Coaches and Group Leaders will also take place on Friday evening.
Saturday & Sunday - The group stages of the festival will take place on the Saturday with the final group standings determining whether teams go on to compete in the Rhinos Challenge Finals, Shield or Bowl competitions on the Sunday. The festival format may vary depending on the number of teams registered in each age group. The celebrity presentation ceremony will take place on the Sunday evening.
Monday - No rugby is played on the Monday so teams have the option of travelling home on the Sunday evening or Monday. Check out of accommodation is 10.00am on Monday but you do not have to leave the resort until Midday.
TEAM ENTRY FEES There are no Team Entry Fees to enter the Rhinos Challenge. All costs involved with staging the festival are included in the accommodation charges.
WRISTBANDS You will be allocated one wristband for each member of your party booked through ESF Events. Please be aware that people without a wristband will not be able to participate in the festival, attend the presentation ceremony or enter evening entertainment venues at the holiday centre.
ACCOMMODATION IMPORTANT: Accommodation for your whole party, including players, families, managers and supporters, must be booked through ESF Events. If members of your party do not book their accommodation through ESF Events, the team will not be permitted to participate in the festival. The only exception to this is ‘local’ teams who are invited to participate in the festival to ensure the best possible format in each age group.
On receipt of your Team Registration Form, the accommodation booking information will be emailed to the Group Leader. Your party need to book accommodation with a deposit of £30 per person by a set date, normally 3 weeks after your Team Registration is accepted.
Accommodation will be allocated strictly on a first-come first-served basis. All sizes and grades of accommodation are subject to availability. If you select a particular size or grade of accommodation which is no longer available, you will be offered the nearest alternative. Accommodation will always be available once your registration has been accepted, providing your party book their accommodation by their accommodation booking deadline, but we cannot guarantee your first choice of accommodation.
UNOCCUPIED BEDS: In cases where a unit of accommodation is booked leaving unoccupied beds, a full subsidy will be charged, i.e. If 3 people book a 4 berth unit of accommodation, they would have to pay for 4 people. Infants under the age of 2 years, who go free if you bring along your own cot, do not count towards the occupancy of a unit.
At Butlin’s resorts you can hire a cot for a fee of £10 (linen is not provided) or pay a supplement of £35 if an infant under 2 sleeps in a bed.
At Haven’s Cala Gran Holiday Park, you can hire a cot for a fee of £7. Cot linen is not provided.

DINING PLANS AT BUTLIN’S SKEGNESS Half Board Dining Plans at Butlin’s Skegness include breakfast and evening meal. Evening meal is included on the day of arrival, but not if you arrive after the restaurant is closed. Breakfast is included on the day of departure.
SUPERVISION: ADULT TO CHILD RATIOS At least one responsible adult over the age of 21 must occupy each unit of accommodation. A minimum adult to child ratio of 1 to 2 is required for your party by Butlin’s. A minimum adult to child ratio of 1 to 3 is required for your party by Haven.
INSURANCE The 2016 Rhinos Challenge is covered for ‘Public Liability’ insurance by ESF Events. However, this does not cover individual teams or ‘person to person’ public liability, personal accident or injury whilst attending the festival. We strongly recommend that all participating teams, if they are not already covered, should take out insurance cover for these risks. We also strongly recommend all members of your party take out appropriate holiday insurance.
CANCELLATION If you cancel your booking due to illness, accident or change of circumstances, and if you have taken insurance cover, payments for accommodation arising from the cancellation may be covered.Initial Deposit payments paid to ESF Events will not be refunded for cancellations. As soon as you need to cancel you must call ESF Events on 01664 566360. Cancellation charges are calculated from the day ESF Events receive written instructions to cancel a booking.Please see the table below:
TEAM REGISTRATION Participating teams are required to complete a full player registration document that includes players name, and date of birth. In addition, you must also bring RFL identification cards for all players to the festival.
BEHAVIOUR & CONDUCT WHILE ON TOUR It is the responsibility of the Group Leader and adults in the party to ensure the behaviour of all members of your party is acceptable at all times at the festival. Clubs will be charged for any damage caused by members of their party. In extreme cases of unacceptable behaviour, the Resort Management & ESF Events reserve the right to terminate a holiday, whereby part or all of a Team/Club may be required to leave the premises without refund. Misconduct while on site at Butlins or at the festival itself may also be reported to the RFL by the festival organisers, for further disciplinary action to be taken as deemed appropriate.
EVENT ORGANISERS The Rhinos Challenge is organised and staged by ESF Events Ltd (Company Registration Number 7695303)
FORCE MAJEUR We do not accept liability for any loss, damage or expense arising from a change or cancellation to your tour which occurs due to unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control and that of our suppliers. Such events would include, for example, war, threat of war, riots, civil strife, pandemics, industrial disputes, terrorist activity, fire or adverse weather conditions, natural or nuclear disaster, decisions of the RFL or similar events beyond our control.
BROCHURE ACCURACY To the best of our knowledge, all information in this brochure is accurate at the time of print. Please be aware that there may be occasions when the facilities listed in this brochure are modified or unavailable due to factors beyond our control.
DATA PROTECTION ESF Events will use the personal information that you provide to process your booking and provide your tour. We may also need to pass your information to third party service providers such as Butlins, Haven and Leeds Rhinos. The Group Leader for each booking has the authority to discuss all accommodation bookings made under the team booking with ESF and representatives from the holiday centres if required. It is the Group Leaders responsibility to inform all other members of your party what information you are providing, and what we may use it for.
FINANCIAL PROTECTION All payments made to ESF Events Ltd are fully protected. ESF Events are members of ABTOT – The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust. The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT) provides financial protection under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 for ESF Events Ltd, and in the event of their insolvency, protection is provided for the following:1. non-flight packages commencing in and returning to
the UK;2. non-flight packages commencing and returning to
a country other than the UK;3. flight inclusive packages that commence outside of the
UK, which are sold to customers outside of the UK;4. accommodation only bookings;
1, 2, 3 and 4 provides for a refund in the event you have not yet travelled. 1 and 3 provides for repatriation. Please note that bookings made outside the UK are only protected by ABTOT when purchased directly with ESF Events Ltd.
Only contracts made with ESF Events Limited as a principal operator of the bookings will be covered by ABTOT. Bookings with, and payments made directly to Butlin’s are not covered by ABTOT.

An initial deposit payment of £250 per age group is required to reserve team places at the Rhinos Challenge. The Initial Deposit Payment will be refunded by ESF Events Ltd once the accommodation for your whole party has been booked with Butlins.
