I want to start off by saying thank you to all the a endees at our 2015 Quality Day Conference. It was the largest and best yet. We organize this signature event every other year. We had 186 a endees with 3 people coming all the way from Tucson, AZ. Our visitors from AZ commented that our Quality Day Event was well worth the trip. We were very fortu‐nate to have a highly talented and professional lineup of Quality Day presenters with great topics. Quality Day 2015 was another huge oppor‐

I want to give a special thanks to the ASQ Sec on 0701 Leadership Team, volunteers and our very talented present‐ers for their significant selfless contribu ons to our 2015 Quality Day Event. Now we are preparing for another tradi onal event that we organize every second Tuesday of December: Casino Night! Sounds fun, right? Are you ready for a fun family evening? November Is World Quality Month
It’s That Time of Year!
THE VISION The purpose of World Quality Month is to pro-mote the use of quality tools in businesses and communities. Quality tools, such as flowcharts and checklists, reduce mistakes and help produce superior products. Quality principles could re-duce headline-making errors, like food safety, toy recalls, and financial disruptions. World Quality Month calls on people who use quality tools to share their knowledge by submitting their stories to illustrate the value of quality prin-ciples.
FACTS ABOUT WORLD QUALITY MONTH
Chartered Quality Institute celebrates World Quality Day each year in November with activities and events to promote quality around the world.
Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) has been celebrating World Quality Month in Japan since 1960 by organizing events in collaboration with Japanese Stand-ards Association (JSA), Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK), The Japanese Society for Quality Control (JSQC), The Japan Productivity Center (JPC), JCA, Quality En-gineering Society (QES), QC, Keidanren.
Many organizations in Europe have marked "Quality Week" for 20 years, including Euro-pean Organization for Quality (EOQ), World Alliance for Quality (WAQ), Vlaams Cen-trum voor Kwaliteitszorg (VCK).
In the 1980s and 1990s ASQ played a leader-ship role in establishing and conducting Na-tional Quality Month in the USA.
WHY MANAGE QUALITY? Which of these risks are relevant to your organization?
Unpredictable / inconsistent ways of working leading to business risks and deteriorating reputation
A focus on the requirements of some stakeholders to the detriment of others: Delighted customers but perhaps low profitability,
supply chain risk, failures to meet required stand-ards, employee volatility
Failures in the quality of your product or service Your products, services or facilities harming an
individual, society or the environment Failures in managing data integrity / management
of information /losing customer data or property Your product or service becoming too expensive for
the target market Quality management is centered on identifying the many stakeholder requirements placed on the organization and ensuring the organization effectively responds to these re-quirements by insisting on good governance, agile assur-ance and a culture of change.
Undertaking these quality management activities is central to driving organizational excellence.
Effective quality management...
Protects reputation: Avoiding the potentially cata-strophic risks of getting things wrong
Enhances reputation: Optimizing operational effec-tiveness to maximize value for our customers
Improves profitability / value-for-money: Optimiz-ing operational efficiency by eliminating unnecessary cost and waste
Facilitates a culture of evaluation and improve-ment: Driving change through insight, evaluation and improvement
