Age of students: 10-12

Required prior knowledge: Students have studied the concept of symmetry, angles,

and types of triangles.

Objectives:

- Students identify and recognize angles, symmetry and geometrical shapes in paintings.

- Students use symmetry and geometrical shapes to draw their pictures Opportunities:

- Students can think and be creative using lines, symmetry and geometrical shapes - Students know about artists who created art inspired by geometry - Students observe around and find geometrical patterns and symmetries

Methods of work: group work and individual work

Steps:

1 – Introduction of the activity

2 – Discussion in groups about the different pictures in the worksheet. Looking for geometrical shapes, angles, symmetry,… We can also some of the videos linked in the resources.

3 – Looking for geometrical shapes in our environment, school, town, …

4 – Students are asked to draw a picture, using geometrical shapes, lines, angles and/or symmetry. They can choose different materials and techniques (crayons, coloured pens, watercolours, …)

6 – Exhibition of the students’ artworks
