Dear Escalante-Biggs Academy Community,

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year at Escalante-Biggs! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer with family and friends. I am always grateful for the adventures I have each summer with my family. Speaking of family, I was so very excited to see our wonderful community for our annual “Back-to-School” Night. It was great to see how we all came together as one big “family”. We will continue to remain united and support each other. Together we stand, divided we fall. I continue to appreciate how committed and supportive the Escalante-Biggs community is of our children and school. At Escalante-Biggs, our school vision/mission and our community values lead our decision making throughout the school. Therefore, I would like to remind everyone of our Core Values: Students First, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability, & Fun. Our School Vision/Mission: “At Escalante-Biggs Academy, we are committed to creating and promoting a culture of excellence in which every child succeeds”. We plan on achieving our vision/mission through data-driven instruction, parent and community involvement and by focusing on the whole child (academic & social and emotional development). I would like to invite all of our parents to join us in achieving our vision/mission for ALL of our students.

Teachers have spent the first few weeks of school teaching students expectations and building a positive school community. Now, teachers and students will begin focusing heavily on Reading, Math, Writing, Science and Social Studies. Teachers cannot do their job alone. We always appreciate parent support both within the school walls and at home. Please support your child by encouraging him/her to complete homework and by reading with your child on a daily basis at home. Please volunteer at school whenever you can – helping the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), reading in the classroom, going on field trips, and participating in community events. We love seeing parents in our building! We are off to a great start. Thank you to everyone – parents, students and staff who have helped this school year begin successfully. Your humble servant,

In DPS, most schools have a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) to enhance student achievement, parent engagement and positive school culture through collaboration. The CSC generally includes the following representatives: Principal, Teachers, (3) Parents, & 1 Adult Member of a School-Recognized Group. Join our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Meetings

Meetings will take place on the First Thursday of each month from 8:10 am to 8:30am

During PTO meetings: Parents will have an opportunity to learn about what is happening at our school on a month-by-month basis.

Sign-up for volunteering opportunities.

Engage in an open forum conversation with Principal & Assistant Principal and get answers to questions you might

have about school policies and procedures.

Our next meeting will take place on October 3, 2019

Everyone is welcome and Spanish Translation will be available. NOTE: If other translations are needed,

please notify the school by the 3rd Wednesday of each month and school will find out if language interpreters are available to attend monthly PTO meetings (this is

not a guarantee).

Mensaje del director Querida Comunidad de Escalante-Biggs Academy, ¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2019-20 en Escalante-Biggs! Espero que todos hayan tenido un verano maravilloso con su familia y sus amigos. Siempre estoy agradecido por las aventuras que tengo cada verano con mi familia. Hablando de familia, estaba tan emocionado de ver nuestra maravillosa comunidad para nuestra Noche Anual de Regreso a la Escuela. Fue genial ver cómo todos nos juntamos como una gran "familia". Continuaremos unidos y apoyándonos mutuamente. Juntos podremos lograr más. Continúo apreciando el apoyo que las familias de Escalante-Biggs tienen para sus niños y nuestra escuela. En Escalante-Biggs, nuestra Visión/Misión de nuestra escuela y nuestros valores de la comunidad nos guían en las decisiones que hacemos para la escuela. Nos gustaría recordarles de nuestros valores de DPS y de Escalante Biggs: Estudiantes Primeros, Integridad, Equidad, Colaboración, Responsabilidad, y Diversión. Nuestra Visión/Misión de la Escuela: “En la Academia Escalante-Biggs, estamos comprometidos a crear y promover una cultura de excelencia en la que cada niño tenga éxito”. Podemos lograr nuestra visión/misión a través de la instrucción planeado por documentación de nuestra data. Invito a todos los padres a unirse con nosotros en lograr nuestra visión/misión para TODOS nuestros estudiantes. Los maestros han pasado las primeras semanas de la escuela compartiendo las expectativas y creando una comunidad escolar positiva. Ahora, los maestros y los estudiantes comenzarán el reto, para lograr las metas de aprendizaje del año escolar en literatura, matemáticas, escritura ciencia y estudios sociales. Los maestros no pueden hacer su trabajo solos. Siempre apreciamos el apoyo de los padres, en la escuela y en el hogar. Por favor apoyen a sus niños, animándolos a completar sus tareas y leer en casa diario. Por favor, tomen el tiempo de ser voluntarios en la escuela cuando es posible – ayudando con la Organización de Padres y Maestros (PTO), leyendo con los niños en la clase, ser voluntario en los paseos y participar en los eventos de la comunidad. ¡Nos encanta ver a los padres y niños en nuestros pasillos!
