Hello Everyone, If you have been up to the range recently, you may have noticed a lot of activity down around the 150 yd. berm. We are building a 4 ft. high concrete wall about 10 ft. beyond the berm so we can backfill it with dirt and raise the height of the berm approximately 6-8 ft. higher. This will eliminate most of the impacts in the trees beyond the berm. Smitty has volunteered his time and expertise to get this done. He furnished all the forms and labor. The wall is approximately 220 ft. long. It is long enough to go completely to the fence and along each end of the berm including two wing walls for extra support. He recruited some volunteers to assist him along the way and the concrete was poured on Friday. We used 50 yards of concrete. I want to thank all those who showed up to shoot and cooperated with us when they were turned down because of the activity over the last two weeks. We expect to have to shut down only two more days on separate occasions. One day to remove the rocks exposed in the bank on the pistol and 100 yard ranges. Another to backfill the berm and hopefully eliminate some of the restrictions, if not all, now in effect on the 150 yard range. If we don’t act now and preserve those Oak trees, we will surely be required to do so in the future. Remember, all this is done in the interest of safety! As far as the Range Improvement Project progress goes, we are very near getting approval to install a leech field for the rest rooms. A couple more tests need to take place but it is looking favorable. I have been assured, heard that one before, that the designs are nearly completed for the storage building and should be able to submit for a permit soon. Remember, it is very frustrating for us to wait on these things but we have no other option. I do believe however, that we are starting to wear them down. I am writing this on the 20th to meet deadlines. Hope to see a lot of you at the work party tomorrow. Take care and be safe. Hello Everyone,

If you have been up to the range recently, you may have noticed a lot of activity down around the 150 yd.

Members and Range Officers,

The (OBI’S) Open bolt indicators mentioned in lasts months’ newsletter are a hot item on the range. We sold most of our inventory and have reordered. When a cease fire is called and the range is called “cold” it’s great to look down the line and see OBI’s in the firearm chambers. It is also a good habit to use them in your firearms stored in the gun racks. Pistol shooters please take advantage of this opportunity to buy OBI’s for your hand-guns. OBI’s are especially useful in semi automatic pistols where it is difficult to see if the firearm is unloaded. They are available at the General Meeting and from Tom Kendall, Lee Allen or Bud Smith when they are on the range. The cost is $2.00 each or 6 for $10.00.

Trap Shooters, we have a new challenge for you to tune your skills. Bob Schoenfield (Trap Chair,) has in-vested many hours over several months putting together a fantastic “5” stands shoot. He is continually changing the course and it is a challenge. To my knowledge no one has shot 25 straight. Please call Bob at 760-212-6125 with questions on shoot times or check the schedule on line www.escondidofishandgame.com . This is a shoot, shot gunners are going to love.

Al Ardale is putting the finishing touches on a new discipline he will be offering in the near future. The class is Basic Personal Protection in the Home. The course goal is to develop in the student the basic knowledge, skill and attitude essential to safe and efficient use of a firearm for the protection of self and family, and to pro-vide information on the law-abiding citizen’s right to self defense. Participants must be experienced shooters by having taken a basic pistol and safe gun handling course with certification of competition or an NRA First Steps course certificate. Jack Bryson offers a Basic Handgun class that will qualify you for this course. The class will be limited to four students to allow time for personal instruction. The approximate length of the class is 8 hours of combined classroom and on the range pistol qualification at 3, 5, and 7 yards. This will be a scheduled event. Please stay tuned for more information. Al has taken several classes and has earned his NRA Instructors credentials required to teach this class. He plans to be on the schedule in May or June. Please call Al Ardale with questions 760-747-7781. At this point the cost of the class has not been determined.

Cowboy Shooters, need some practice? This is your opportunity. J.W Bailey (JW Bass) and Kenneith Notter (Devil Jack) have moved the SASS practice to the 1st and 3rd Friday from 11am to 2pm. Show up early on the 150 yard range to help set up. New Shooters welcomed. Please call Kenneith or J.W. with any questions.

The Range Master tune- up class is scheduled for Saturday March 20th from 8:30am until approx 2:00PM. All active range officers and prospective new range officers are invited. We will review the range officers outline of duties, review walk thru procedures and discuss several range scenarios that call for range officer intervention. If you had an experience that left you in doubt on how to handle the situation, please call me before the meeting and we will discuss it in class. Our goal is to make our range the safest range in California and the range with the best trained range officers. Please bring your NRA RSO or CRSO cards with you. The Board of Directors asked me to thank you all for the time you donate to our association. Thanks for all you do.
