Bond Sale SetFor New Bridge

The Texas Turnpike Authorityboard authorized sale of a $102 millionrevenue bond issue to finance construc-tion of a long-planned second bridgeacross the Houston Ship Channel nearPasadena.

Work on the proposed four-lanebridge, due to open to traffic in 1982,will begin in January. Drivers will pay50 cents per vehicle axle.

TTA officials have planned for a2009 payoff of the bonds used tofinance construction, but they concedethat bond retirement may come muchearlier because of expected trafficgrowth.

The authority projects that 7.5million vehicles will use the bridge in1982 but that annual volume will beclose to 23.7 million by 1993.
