His life…..• He is best known for being an author and illustrator of

children’s books.• He was born in New York in 1929. He moved to Germany was

he was 6 years old and studied there. He graduated from Akademie der bildenden Künste, which was a very hard school to get into.

• His dream was always to return to the U.S. which he did in 1952, with a portfolio and $40 in his pocket. He found a job as a graphic designer for the New York Times. He was asked to illustrate a story that someone else had written and …..that is how it all began….. He was FOUND!!!

His books….• Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? This was the

beginning of his career. • His art work is very recognizable by many. He has a way of

using a collage look to the animals, people and scenes that he depicts in his stories. He also likes to use bright vivid colors.

• The main reason why he thinks that his books are so popular is because he respects the young learners and understands them. His books let children learn something about the world around them.

• Eric is married with two children.
