1. Hereafter all property in the hands of combatant troops inservice in Europe will be divided into classes as follows:
2. MOBILE EQUIPMENT is the equipment prescribed for usein troop movements, temporary billets, and open warfare. Itis limited to the animals, vehicles, and articles of equipmentprescribed in the Tables of Organization, the equipment andclothing worn on the person, and the articles carried in packand on mount and transported in field, combat, and divisionaltrains.
3. The mobile equipment will be carried in all classes of service.4. TRENCH EQUIPMENT is the equipment which, in additionto the mobile equipment, is prescribed for use in t rench warfare.
5. Ths trench equipment prescribed is designed to meet thenecessities growing out of trench warfare as it exists on theWestern front.
6. The tab les given herew ith cover all property in the handsof combatant troops and include Quartermaster, Ordnance,Medical, Gas Service, Eng ineer and Signal pr op er ty . Th is equ ip

7. The trench equipment does not accompany the troops introop mov eme nts. The necessary stocks of equipment and supplies of this class are maintained in the dumps, and articles areissued out to the troops occupying the trenches in accordance
with necessities as they arise. W hen an organization is relievedfrom the trenches it will turn over the trench equipment in thesector or part of a sector occupied by it to the organization relieving it.
8. This manual modifies existing tables of allowance and equipment manuals only in so far as is considered necessary to meetconditions of service in Europe. Due to the fact that differenttypes of equipment are being issued to our troops, and thatother changes are to take place in the future, the names ofarticles and figures given herein will not be strictly applicable in

9. The manual is intended as a guide for organization commanders in determining amounts of equipment and supplies to be
kept on hand, and it is authority to Supply Officers for issuesin accordance with its provisions. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO
REGULATE OR LIMIT IN ANY WAY CALLS FOR SUPPLIESNECESSARY TO THE EFFICIENT CONDUCT OF OPERATIONS.NOR TO INTERFERE WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF SUCH

Table 7
Ta bles of T ren ch Eq uipm ent
These tables give for each of the separate organizations of an in
fantry regiment the articles which in addition to the Mobile Equip
ment are prescribed for use in trench w arfa re. They com prise such
articles as have a particular use for this warfare and do not accom
pan y troo ps in th eir ma rch es in or out of the tren ch es. The neces
sary stocks of equipment and supplies of this class are maintained
in the dumps within the sector, and articles are issued out to the
troops occupying the trenches in accordance with necessities as they
arise. The quantit ies given are the minimum amounts to be main
tained in a quiet sector, and commanding officers will make calls for
such supplies in addition to these as the conditions in the particular
sector appear to require.
When an organization is relieved from the trenches it will turn
over the Trench Equipment in the sector or part of a sector occupied
by it to the organization relieving it.
