epoxy flooring rejuvenates tired concrete

Epoxy Flooring Rejuvenates Tired Concrete
Concrete is used for flooring because of its durability and cost effectiveness when compared to other
types of flooring, but it has never laid claim to being particularly attractive when compared to the many
other types of flooring available. This was until the introduction of seamless flooring using a system of
epoxy resin basecoat that is applied over existing concrete floors. This system allows for the introduction
of colour and patterns, which lifts the appearance of the concrete to create a stylish, contemporary look
that is low maintenance, and retains its fresh look for many years.
Epoxy flooring benefits the customer in a number of ways. The work undertaken to prepare the existing
concrete surface for the seamless flooring Ipswich process restores the surface where there are gouges
or cracks in the concrete. These must be filled and sealed to create an even surface prior to the
application of the epoxy resin. This initial process in itself improves the appearance of the floor.
This preparation is followed by a primer coat if the floor is particular porous or has deteriorated badly.
This seals the surface and prevents moisture from rising through, thus preserving the life of the concrete
longer than it would have without this work taking place.
The epoxy base coat and flake is applied on the second day, and sanded and vacuumed on the third day,
and the first polyurethane coat applied. The second and final polyurethane coat is applied on the fourth
day. The owner now has an attractive, level, seamless flooring with a glossy finish that brings out the
colours of the flake. This improvement in appearance can increase the value of the property, whether
commercial or domestic, providing an immediate benefit to the owner.
Further epoxy flooring benefits include its low maintenance properties, and its ability to withstand
exposure to the sun through the polyurethane finish which is UV stabilised and therefore doesn’t yellow.
Rooms finished with epoxy flooring look larger because of the seamless finish, creating an illusion of
lightness and space.
As a viable alternative to plain concrete, epoxy flooring Ipswich has gained in popularity and now is
used in a wide variety of applications including factory floors, hairdressing salons, supermarkets,
hardware stores, retail outlets, medical centres and many other commercial applications. On the
domestic front, it is generally found in rumpus rooms and garages, once again increasing the value of
the owner’s property because of its stylish appearance.
Putting down a concrete floor no longer means cold, boring and unattractive. While not denying the
practical benefits of concrete, the addition of epoxy flooring creates a long-wearing, attractive and low
maintenance alternative that raises the value of the property and provides a pleasant environment for
the people who use it.
