Self-Awareness (Statements 1, 2, 3, 4)

Before you can fully understand the complexities of diversity you have to have an understanding of your own identity – those values, beliefs and behaviors that make you who you are. These experiences create our individual “culture filters” though which we perceive our interactions with others. Do you know what makes up the dimensions of your own diversity? Can you recognize those key factors that have shaped your individual identity. Through developing a self-awareness you can manage your cultural filter in order to make a conscious effort to value other perspectives and reap the benefits that diversity brings to the workplace.

As a supervisor, you create the work culture. The steps you take to create an inclusive environment where all employees feel welcomed and valued will create a structure for your employees to follow. By utilizing the strengths of your diverse workforce you can increase morale, retain talent, foster creativity and build productive and successful teams. So what type of work culture are you creating? By recognizing cultural components that impact your reactions with your employees you are able to maximize employee success and morale.
