Steve Marsden:Except where emissions are given on suppliers' bills or where national government guidelines exist. Defra guidelines are at http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/business/envrp/pdf/conversion-factors.pdfGross CV used as per current guidelines.
Steve Marsden:Looks far too low compared to other countries, especially considering the number of people in-country, Nutley etc.
Steve Marsden:Reported therms converted to kWh by multiplying by Defra therm factor and dividing by Defra kWh factor
Steve Marsden:Calculated from CO2e where given in suppliers bills and from Australian government factors.

Responsible product developmentConnectivity services: environmental benefits More accurate testing means less visits
Potential to offer CPs access and managed control of service network termination electronics
Reduced power consumption lowers costs
EBD moves Backhaul supply from individual point-to-point services with a per service multiple set of electronics and associated per service fibre deployment to a shared infrastructure model
EAD Aggregation - plans to offer multiple circuit Tails through common hub site electronics and individual handover electronics
EAD Flex - active electronics at the end user site 150 fewer visits = 1 tonne of co2 emissions less
Removes the need for CPs to deploy additional electronics
and co2!
Should lead to a lower industry footprint
Reduces units produced and overall power consumption
Should consume far less power than EAD electronics

SummaryEnvironmental impacts are important considerations Underestimating them will impact business success Our Connectivity Services portfolio evolution is already part of this futureTo make a difference we need our customers on board

changes of this speed and magnitude are unprecedented to our knowledge, aside from large meteorite impacts.

Wedge = >13 years at 2008 rates2020 peak = 10%pa reductionSince the Thames Barrier was built in 1983 to protect London from flooding, it has been raised 55 times against tidal surges in the period to 2005 of which 28 have occurred in the last five years.
2080 S England Mean warming +2-3.5C24hr average >30C once every 10 days*EAD) allows CPs to test the Openreach supplied service that in turn will prove any faults on or off our network. In doing so, wasted engineering visits for spurious faults will be massively reduced - which will in turn reduce wasted van visits. Every 150 visits saved avoids 1 tonne of co2.EAD has the potential to offer CPs access and managed control of service network termination electronics in order to remove the need for them to deploy additional electronics for the sole purpose of managing our Openreach services / their end-to-end services. These electronics incur power consumption and create heat for the sole purpose of replicating the same functionality that can exist in the Openreach equipment that sits by its side.Ethernet Backhaul Direct (EBD) has moved Openreachs supply of Backhaul from individual point-to-point services with a per service multiple set of electronics and associated per service fibre deployment to a shared infrastructure model. By defining a network topology to be shared by all of industry we have all made a positive contribution to a reduction in the UKs communications backhaul carbon footprint. EAD Aggregation - plans to offer multiple circuit tails through common hub site electronics and individual handover electronics. This crudely equates, for say 10 CP end user links, a reduction from 20 units of electronics to 12 units a reduction in units of 40%. EAD Flex will offer the same generic benefits as EAD Aggregation active electronics at the End User site should consume far less power than EAD electronics.
