MGA Initiative of the yearSponsored by

Managing general agencies (MGAs) are playing an increasingly important role in the market, providing new income streams for capacity providers and vehicles for innovative underwriters to bring new products to market.

This category is open to London market MGAs and service providers. The award is for a successful initiative over the past year. This could include the launch of an MGA operation, or the introduction of a new line of business by an existing MGA. Innovative services to support the MGA market will also be considered.

The judges will be looking for evidence of: • Excellent underwriting performance• Outstanding service to carriers, brokers and

policyholders• The ability to provide new income streams to capacity

providers that they could not otherwise access• If a service, the business benefits to the MGA market

Reinsurance Broker of the Year

FOR GENERATING CREATIVE SOLUTIONS AND ADDED VALUE IN THE RISK FINANCING PROCESS.

Brokers are the oil lubricating the piston of the global reinsurance community, but their role has extended far beyond the traditional deal-making responsibilities. The skills tool-kit for a broker now ranges across a panoply of activities and successful individuals and companies must prove themselves masters of each. And while it remains a tough environment in which to operate as a broker, it has proven a laboratory for innovation.

THIS AWARD IS DESIGNED TO REWARD THE MOST SUCCESSFUL UNDERWRITING TEAM OF THE YEAR. THE SIZE OF THE TEAM DOES NOT MATTER.Insurance Day is looking for those teams that have achieved the remarkably difficult task of achieving growth in profitability while at the same time delivering quality of service and improved results for customers.

THE CRITERIA ARE AS FOLLOWS:• Profitability − Improvement in underwriting profit,

combined ratio, operating profit − how can this be demonstrated and what drove the success?

The history of the London market resounds with iconic individuals who blazed a trail ensuring that London established itself as the centre of global insurance and more recently retained that title in the face of competition from new jurisdictions. That continues to this day and that it is the long-term contribution to the London market by individuals that we are looking to recognise with this award.

• The winner will have demonstrated a career-long commitment to improving the running of the London Market that goes beyond to day-to-day fulfilment of their responsibilities

• Crucially judges are looking for entries and nominations detailing the work not just of the market’s big names, but also those that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes for their careers and whose commitment − perhaps not always appreciated − deserves recognition

How do the judges select the winners?

The Insurance Day Awards prides itself on its Judging Panel, comprised of independent, senior industry experts each chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility.

Judging will take place throughout September, and the finalists will be announced in October. Details of the winners are strictly embargoed until the night but further details of all the finalists will be published in Insurance Day in the weeks leading up to the ceremony on 23 November 2017.

The chair of the Judging Panel reserves the right to cast any deciding vote, should the need arise. The judges’ decision is final and neither the organisers nor the Judging Panel will enter into any correspondence about the results.

Who can enterInsurance Day welcomes entries from companies or individuals operating in the London Market. Where appropriate, entries in more than one category are encouraged however we suggest their entry is tailored to meet the individual criteria. Individual companies can enter themselves.

The rules• All entries must be written in English.• Limit your entry to 750 words.• All entries must be submitted via our online entry

synopsis of the entry as you would like it to appear on all publicity material (this is in addition to the 750 word entry).

• All entries must be based on activities undertaken from January 2016 to August 2017.

• Do not provide any supporting documentation, all information should be included within your 750 word entry

A. It’s very simple. Ensure you have read the entry guidelines and category criteria. Decide which category/categories you wish to enter, prepare your entry off-line. Once you are ready click ‘Enter Now’ which takes you through the entry stages; follow the on-screen instructions and submit your entry by clicking ‘Enter’.

A. Entering into the Insurance Day London Market Awards is free of charge.

Q. When is the entry deadline?

A. Entries are being accepted up until the Friday 1st September 2017.

Q. How do the judges select the winners?

A. Once entries have been received and finalists selected they will be distributed to the judging panel. The judges will convene to discuss the finalists and will use the published criteria to individually evaluate each entry. The judging panel comprises independent, senior industry experts, chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility. Judges discuss all categories relevant to their specialist knowledge, expertise and experience, ensuring a considered, educated response to your submission. The chair of the judging panel reserves the right to cast any deciding vote, should the need arise. The judges’ decision is final.

Q. How will I know if my submission has been successful?

A. Following the judging all companies and individuals will be notified by email. Finalists will be announced on our website insurancedayawards.com and in the Insurance Day news bulletin. You will then be sent a finalist pack giving ideas and tips on how to publicise your success.

Q.What do I get if I win?

A. The Insurance Day London Market Awards are highly regarded within the insurance industry, winning an award marks you out as a leader in your field. In addition to your trophy and a certificate of recognition, you will receive a winner’s pack which includes your awards winner logo, photos and ideas on how to publicise your success.
