HOLD ON A MINUTE - WHAT IS RSS?

“RSS” stands for Really Simple Syndication.

It’s often called a news feed, as it provides an easy way for Websites to tell people about what is new or what has changed.

If you subscribe to different RSS news feeds, usually with an RSS reader, you won’t need to visit each Website to find out when things change – the news will come to you.

HOW RSS WORKS

News about content changes

New blog posts

New search results

Using RSS news feeds,I save time because

new information comes to me from the information sources I

choose!

AND WHAT ABOUT “ENTERPRISE RSS”?

RSS is an important part of what makes Web 2.0 work.

Most RSS feeds come from the Web, but as more enterprise information becomes available internally through RSS, users will want an Enterprise RSS solution.

“Enterprise RSS” makes RSS work better inside organizations.

And IT departments will like it too!

THE WEB & ENTERPRISE RSS DILEMMA

Hmm. I’m reading the same news feeds in

different place, but not all my feeds in one

place – this is driving me nuts!

WHAT DOES AN ENTERPRISE RSS SOLUTION LOOK LIKE?

Data from legacy systems

Great. Finally, we have an integrated

Enterprise RSS solution!

And I can even see what feeds are popular, to

make sure I don’t miss anything.

FIVE BENEFITS OF ENTERPRISE RSS

1. Mashuperize – provide tools to make composite RSS feeds from other RSS feeds and data, including legacy systems.

2. Publicize – make it easy for people to find the RSS feeds they need and the RSS feeds they want.

3. Optimize – make sure RSS feeds are available, readable and bandwidth efficient.

4. Analyze – find out what people are reading (and what they are not)… and feed this back into your Enterprise RSS system.

5. Securetize – protect users from malicious code and support for secure RSS feeds.

KEY POINTS ABOUT ENTERPRISE RSS

Enterprise RSS is part of the solution to managing information overload. It also provides the plumbing for Enterprise 2.0.

Simply “RSS-ifying” existing enterprise content and providing RSS readers does not represent a long term Enterprise RSS solution.

With a real Enterprise RSS system, enterprise computer users will get a better user experience and organizations will be better able to tap into the power of RSS.
