In the future, deception of every kind is

to arise and we want solid ground for our

feet. We want solid pillars for thebuilding. Not one pin is to be removed

from that which the Lord has established.

The enemy will bring false theories, such

as the doctrine that there is no sanctuary.

This is one of the point on which there will

be a departing from the faith.Review

The sanctuary in heaven is the very center of

Christ's work in behalf of men. It concerns

every soul living upon the earth. It opens toview the plan of redemption, bringing us down

to the very close of time, and revealing the

triumphant issue of the contest betweenrighteousness and sin. It is of the utmost

    importance that all should thoroughly

investigate these subjects, and be able to giveto every one that asketh them a reason for the

hope that is in them. {RH, November 9, 1905

the purpose of helping everyone to understand

present truth and to help people get ready forthe second coming of Jesus Christ. Many have

lost sight of Jesus and what he is doing for us

in the Heavenly Sanctuary! The truthscontained in this presentation is essential to

prepare for the time of trouble, such like never

was since there was a nation. (Daniel 12:1)This presentation will help us to cooperate

But such subjects as the sanctuary, in

connection with the 2300 days, the

commandments of God and the faith ofJesus, are perfectly calculated to explain

the past Advent movement and show

what our present position is, establish thefaith of the doubting, and give certainty to

the glorious future. These, I have

    frequently seen, were the principal

subjects on which the messengers should

The subject of the sanctuary and the

them to exercise the faith which is

essential at this time or to occupy theposition which God designs them to fill.

I also saw that manydo not realize what they must be in

order to live in the sight of the Lord without a high priest in

the sanctuary through the time of trouble. Those whoreceive the seal of the living God and are protected in the

time of trouble must reflect the image of Jesus

    fully. {Early Writings page 71.1}

"Said the angel, "Deny self; ye must step fast." Some of us have had

time to get the truth and to advance step by step, and every step we

have taken has given us strength to take the next. But now time is

almost finished, and what we have been years learning, they will haveto learn in a few months. They will also have much to unlearn and

much to learn again. Those who would not receive the mark of the

beast and his image when the decree goes forth, must have decision

nowto say, Nay, we will not regard the institution of the beast.{Early

"Time is almost finished. Do you reflect the lovely image of Jesus as

you should?" Then I was pointed to the earth and saw that there

would have to be a getting ready among those who have of lateembraced the third angel's message. Said the angel, "Get ready, get

ready, get ready. Ye will have to die a greater death to the world than

ye have ever yet died." I saw that there was a great work to do for

them and but little time in which to do it. EARLY WRITINGS PAG 64

Now, while our great High Priest is making the atonement for us, we

should seek to become perfect in Christ. Not even by a thought could

our Saviour be brought to yield to the power of temptation. Satan

finds in human hearts some point where he can gain a foothold; some

sinful desire is cherished, by means of which his temptations asserttheir power. But Christ declared of himself: The prince of this world

cometh, and hath nothing in me. Satan could find nothing in the Son

of God that would enable him to gain the victory. He had kept his

Fathers commandments, and there was no sin in him that Satan coulduse to his advantage. This is the condition in which those must be

found who shall stand in the time of trouble.

Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour

before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He

shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may

judge his people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have

made a covenant with me by sacrifice. And the heavens shall declare

his righteousness: for God is judge himself. (Ps 50: 3-6) RH 3-14-1912

We are now living in the great day of atonement. In the typical service,

while the high priest was making the atonement for Israel, all were

required to afflict their souls by repentance of sin, by humiliation

before the Lord, lest they be cut off from among the people. In likemanner, all who would have their names retained in the book of life,

should now, in the few remaining days of their probation, afflict their

souls before God by sorrow for sin, and true repentance. There must

be deep, faithful searching of heart. The light, frivolous spirit indulged

in by so many professed Christians must be put away. There is earnest

warfare before all who would subdue the evil tendencies that strive

for the mastery. The work of preparation is an individual work. We are

not saved in groups. The purity and devotion of one will not offset the

want of these qualities in another. Though all nations are to pass injudgment before God, yet he will examine the case of each individual

with as close and searching scrutiny as if there were not another being

upon the earth. Every one must be tested, and found without spot or

    wrinkle or any such thing. {RH, November 9, 1905 par. 12}

GODS TRUMPET NEEDS TO BE SOUNDED

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain:

let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORDcometh, for [it is] nigh at hand, Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a

fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the

congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that

suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and thebride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD,

weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy

people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the

heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the

people, Where [is] their God? (Joel 2:1, 15-17)

The hour of his judgment is come (Revelation 14:7). Cry aloud, spare

not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their

transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:2)

From the Holy of Holies, there goes on the

grand work of instruction. The angels of God

are communicating to men. Christ officiates inthe sanctuary. We do not follow Him into the

sanctuary as we should. Christ and angels work

in the hearts of the children of men. Thechurch above united with the church below is

warring the good warfare upon the earth.

There must be a purifying of the soul hereupon the earth, in harmony with Christ's

cleansing of the sanctuary in heaven. {Mar

As Christ Cleanses the Sanctuary in Heaven:

Christ is in the heavenly sanctuary, and He is

there to make an atonement for the people.

He is there to present His wounded side and

pierced hands to His Father. He is there to

plead for His Church that is upon the earth. He

is cleansing the sanctuary from the sins of the

people. What is our work? It is our work to be

in harmony with the work of Christ. By faith

we are to work with Him, to be in union with

Him. Review and Herald, Jan. 28, 1890.

"And the blotting out of sins is exactly this thing of the cleansing of the

sanctuary ; it is the finishing of all transgression in our lives ; it is the

making an end of all sins in our character ;it is the bringing in of the

very righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ, to abidealone everlastingly. This blotting out of sins must precede the

receiving of the refreshing of the latter rain. For it is only upon those

who have the blessing of Abraham that the promise of the Spirit

comes, and it is only those who are redeemed from sin upon whomthe blessing of Abraham comes. Gal. 3:13, 14. Therefore now as never

before we are to repent and be converted that our sins may be blotted

out, that an utter end shall be made of them forever in our lives and

everlasting righteousness brought in. And this, in order that the

fulness of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit shall be ours in this time of

the refreshing of the latter rain. And all this must be done in order that

the harvest-ripening message of the gospel of the kingdom shall be

preached in all the world with that power from on high by which the

earth shall be lightened with its glory.(The Consecrated Way, p. 64)

Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ

shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy

God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters

must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace

of God and their own diligent efforts, they must be conquerors in thebattle with evil. While the investigative judgment is going forward in

heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from

the sanctuary, there is to be a special work of purification, of putting

    away sin, among God's people on earth. {RH, January 17, 1907 par. 4}

Our High Priest stands by the MERCY-SEAT (which is simply

the top of the ark), and here he offers his blood, not merelyfor the cleansing of the sanctuary, but also for the pardon of

iniquity and transgression. But while we call men to this

open door, and point them to the blood of Christ, offered for

us at the mercy-seat, we would remind them of the LAW OFGOD beneath the mercy-seat, which made the death of

God's beloved Son necessary in order that guilty man might

be pardoned. The ark contains God's commandments; and

he who would receive the blessing of God, at the hand of

our High Priest, must keep the commandments contained in

the ark before which he ministers. (The Sanctuary p. 31-32

The finishing of this work of the sanctuary and for the

sanctuary was, likewise, the finishing of the work for the

people. For in that day of the cleansing of the sanctuary,

which was the Day of Atonement, whosoever of the peopledid not by searching of heart, confession, and putting away

of sin take part in the service of the cleansing of the

sanctuary was cut off forever. Thus the cleansing of the

sanctuary extended to the people and included the people

as truly as it did the sanctuary itself. And whosoever of the

people was not included in the cleansing of the sanctuary

and was not himself cleansed, equally with the sanctuary, from all iniquity and transgression and sin was cut off

  • 8/13/2019 Entering the Most Holy

The cleansing of the sanctuary, the work of the atonement under the Levitical law,

was a work of judgment. For, said the Scripture, "Whatsoever soul it be that shall not

be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people." Lev. 23:29.

Whoever did not make confession of sin that day, could have no part in the

atonement that was made that day; and when the sanctuary had been cleansed, and

atonement made, he was to be cut off without mercy -- he had no other chance, hisprobation was gone. Under the sounding of the Seventh Trumpet it is written that

there is come "the time of the dead that they should be judged;" and the First Angel

of the threefold message says, "The hour of His judgment is come. Therefore, in the

time of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, which is now, in the atonement

made once for all, whosoever shall not confess his sins, and be partaker of theintercession of Christ, can have no part in the atonement of Christ; and when that

sanctuary shall have been cleansed, and that atonement made, he will have to be

cut off without mercy -- he can have no other opportunity, his probation will be

ended. Of such it will be said, "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still; and he which

is filthy, let him be filthy still." No longer will the precious, cleansing blood beapplied. These are they who shall wring out and drink the dregs of the cup that is in

the hand of the Lord (Ps. 75:8); these are they who "shall drink of the wine of the

wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation."

In the type, after the high priest had placed the sins of Israel upon the head of the

scapegoat, he left the robes worn while officiating as high priest in the sanctuary,

and put on other garments, and began a work in the court. He had the bodies of the

animals whose blood had been carried into the sanctuary taken without the camp

and burned. At the close of the day, ashes were the only thing to be seen of the sin-

    offerings.

Our High Priest lays aside His priestly garments, and clad as King of kings He rides

forth a mighty Conqueror to gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and

them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire. Christ comes to

set in order the antitypical courtthis earth; and when the great antitypical day ofatonement ends, nothing will remain that will in any way be a reminder of sin,

except the ashes under the feet of the righteous.

The word atonement means at-one-ment; and when Christ pronounces the decree

which determines the eternal destiny of every soul, He and the subjects of His

kingdom are at-one-ment. Sin will never again separate Christ from His people. Butthe territory of His kingdom is still cursed by sin, so the at-one-ment of Christ and His

kingdom will not be complete in every sense of the term until from the fires of the

last day there comes forth a new earth with every mark of the curse removed. Then

not only the subjects of Christs kingdom, but the entire earth, will be at-one-ment

with Christ and the Father. Sin will never again arise to mar the earth; but it will be

the home of the redeemed forever. The Cross and Shadows p. 90
