Upcoming News at Mount Zion

*Shepherding Team #4 Is On Call This Week, August 19th to August 25th. Contact Margaret and Jerry Rose. *Man on the Street Videos - The small groups committee is putting together a video to highlight all the things we do with and for Mount Zion. We will be looking for volunteers to provide a 10 second answer to the questions - what do you do with the church and why that is important after services during July. We want to hear from everyone! Please see Debra Leiss or any member of the Small Groups committee in the West Narthex or the library.

*Family Movie Night. The Small Groups Committee is sponsoring a family movie starting at 7pm in Fellowship Hall. Bring the kids and a snack to share. Movie: 8/18 Wrinkle in Time.

*Drop In Class in August. The Sunday following Family Movie Night - the Drop In Sunday School class will discuss the previous night’s movie and how film can be a medium for spreading the gospel message.

*Book bags and school supplies for children in West Baltimore living in poverty. Ames Memorial UMC, along with Little Flowers Early Childhood Development Center, are collecting new book bags and school supplies for children in the area. We will deliver all the materials to Ames on August 25th. Feel free to contribute either a backpack filled with supplies, or just some of the items listed in the weekly e-Pointer. Place contributions in the bin located in the West Narthex.

*Upcoming New Member Sessions – For those interested in joining Mt. Zion Church, new member classes will be held on the following Sundays - September 9, 16, 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. To register for the sessions, please email or speak to Pastor Gary on Sunday mornings.

*SAGE Brigade September 14th at noon for lunch and a speaker. Bryan Miller from VitaScript will be sharing his knowledge on the Connection Between Your Brain and Gut Health. Please join us for lunch. Everyone is welcome. I will bring the Chicken and Salad Greens. Please bring another topping for the salad or something else to share. RSVP to Debbie Burgio. See you on September 14th! *A Shoe box to collect Box Tops for Education is being placed in the church entry way. The local elementary school collects them to earn money to purchase items for their school. They will be collected and donated. Thank You, Marcy McAdoo. *The Care Giver’s Group meets the 3rd Sunday of every month between services, in the church library. Contact Judy H. Johnson.

Through Our Prayers: As a shepherd cares for the sheep, so also will Christ watch over His followers. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers. Please pray for the Commission on the Way Forward as their final report has been released. They have brought forth three possible directions our UMC may be moving in the future in regards to the issues related to the report. A Special Session of the General Conference is scheduled for Feb. 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis to deliberate and make decisions on the way forward.
