In 402 A.D., Aric of Dacia—heir to the Visigoth throne—lost his father, his wife, and count-less fellow warriors during a crushing defeat at the hands of the Roman Empire. Seeking vengeance, Aric led an attack against a strangely garbed Roman patrol, only to discover they were members of the technologically advanced alien race known as the Vine. Beaten and taken captive, Aric and his comrade-in-arms, Gafti, were enslaved for years aboard a Vine colony ship in deep space. Refusing to be cowed, Aric orchestrated a revolt, storming the hallowed temple where the Vine kept their most powerful and sacred relic: Shahara, the X-O Manowar armor. Shanhara bonded with Aric, making him the first being—human or Vine—to don the armor and survive. With the power of the X-O Manowar armor at his command, Aric annihilated the Vine’s defenses and escaped. His destination? Rome. Arriving on Earth, Aric discovered 1,600 years had passed since he was captured. The Roman Empire is no more, and everyone he ever knew or loved is long gone. Despairing over a fight he can no longer win and a people he cannot return to, Aric takes to the sky and disappears. Unbeknownst to Aric, a far more terrible war is building. The Vine have been living in secret among humans for centuries, and they are determined to retrieve the Manowar armor. They have dispatched elite mercenaries to recapture Aric and Shanhara before a Vine armada descends on the planet…
