Richer Fire Department Give Back

It was with great pleasure that the volunteers from Richer Fire Department handed out three cheques totaling over $2000.00 on

Monday, January 18, 2016 to three deserving organizations. The Richer Day care which provides affordable child care to local

residents, Operation Red Nose from La Broquerie who through countless volunteers help keep our communities and roads safe

and donations collected are handed to the School Council for École Saint Joachim, as well as the Ste. Anne food bank who

provides nutrition to those who are less fortunate. These three groups were the recipients of the total profits raised from the New

Year’s bash held in Richer at the Young at Hearts club. The event was hosted by the Richer Fire Dept to help support these very

deserving groups.

“We (the Richer Fire Dept) wanted to do something to help out during the Christmas season and wanted to bring the community

together to celebrate the season and to welcome in the New Year right” says organizer Rob Desautels. The night turned out to be

a great success as the large crowd had a great time and thanks to Operation Red nose no one had to drive and everyone arrived

home safe.

The Richer Fire dept would like to thank the entire community as well as

many from outside the area who came out to support the event.

BioChemix Entertainment put on a great show and had the hall hopping all

night. Special thanks to Dan Guetre with One One consulting Inc for

donating the time and supplies for all the advertising and creating the “Pie

your Fire man board” in less than an hour which turned out to be a great

success.

We look forward to a great New Year and hope to see everyone again next

year.

RICHER COMMUNITY CLUB

2015 YEAR IN REVIEW

This year has been a very productive year for our club. We have a great group of motivated, hardworking volunteers with a

vision to build a better community. We would like to highlight the things we have done over the past year:

- We hosted a weekly sports drop in on Tuesday evenings throughout the school year for all youth to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The drop in offers different types of games and sports activities in a safe and friendly environment and is run by volunteers. It is

currently ongoing in 2016;

- Winterfest in February, hosted along with the Richer Daycare. There were free activities including sleigh rides, face painting,

games, a bonfire, and characters including Elsa, Olaf and a Minion. Everyone could help themselves to free hot dogs, coffee and

hot chocolate;

- Our outdoor skating rink and hill in the Richer Dawson Trail Park are maintained and cleaned all winter by volunteers. In the

warm-up shack, there are donated skates available for anyone to use or take;

- Advertised and promoted the yearly Community Garage Sale in May to give people a one-stop shop for multiple garage sales;

- Organized and built a new play structure in the park along with extra components and protective fill to surround it. All of this

was done by volunteer time and labour;

- Brought in recycling containers in the park to reduce waste;

- Acquired a big bag of play equipment to use for different activities throughout the year;

- Hosted one free youth social in the park;

- The Richer Archery Club, a subcommittee under the Community Club, had pole archery competitions running from

May-September in the park on Thursday and Friday evenings for youth and adults;

- Hosted a Canada Day Celebration in the park with a free 4on4 ball hockey tournament for kids, games and face painting ,

firefighter demonstration, music, free hotdogs and drinks and a Canada Day cake, and a huge fireworks display at dusk;

- Hosted two Suds, Spud and Steak events. The first was as a fundraiser for the playground and a social was held in the park later

that evening. The second was a fundraiser to support the Communities for Veterans Foundation – The Ride Across Canada. The

riders were able to set up and camp out in the park for the night and were treated to free meals during their stay.

- Hosted the 3rd Annual Richer Rough Stock Rodeo in the park. Again, it was a tremendous success bringing in over a hundred

volunteers to host thousands of guests in our community. Not only has this turned into the biggest annual event in Richer, but

one of the largest outdoor shows in eastern Manitoba.

- We worked with other organizations to bring activities to the park, including the Richer Fireside Youth who met in the park on

a weekly basis throughout the summer;

- For Halloween, we had a free kid’s party with games, treat bags and prizes and a teen dance later in the evening. There was

also a fundraising Social held in conjunction with the Richer Fire Department where prizes were handed out for different

categories;

- For Christmas, we had our annual Christmas in the Park where attendees could help themselves to free hotdogs and hot

chocolate and coffee, along with sleigh rides, a bonfire and children were greeted by Santa and his helpers and left with a gift;

- To end off the year, we were selling our 6th annual Community Calendars that were a great community resource as they

advertised local businesses, meetings, events, birthdays, anniversaries and memories. All profits made will go towards

improvements to the playground area in the park.

- In 2015, we developed two bursaries of $250 for students in our area to help with the cost of their education.

As you can see, our club has accomplished a lot in 2015 and we plan to do even more in 2016. There will be a second phase of

the playground to be completed with protective ground covering to go around the existing structures, a sandbox area and natural

components including large boulders and tractor tires to climb on. We will continue with our annual events and even expand on

them.

The bursaries will continue, grant applications are being filled out and sponsorship meetings with businesses and other

organizations are being held in order to ensure we utilize the dollars we have raised efficiently and spread it as far as we can.

Anyone interested in helping out is welcome to come to one of our meetings which are held the 2nd Wednesday of every month

in the Richer LUD Hall at 7:30 pm. We would love to see you there and hear your suggestions. The more help we have, the

more we can do to make our community a great place.
