Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and translated into, "The Way of the Hand andFoot". Though the term has be around since 1955, the art can be traced back toKorean over 2,000 years ago. Students progress through our curriculum in belt rankgroup; however, the students all practice together. Students can expect to do a lotof kicking and punching, falling, and rolling, and best of all, yelling in our class. Weorganize an in-class tournament at the end of the school year, and students canchoose to compete in a regional competition to earn medals for themselves, andpoints for their school in a regional elementary school competition. In this class we will further develop the foundations of ballet and movement. We will usethese foundations in a fun and meaningful way. Each class time will be filled withmovement experiences such as movement creation, ballet, theatre, jumping, balancing,tumbling, music, and movement games. This class will work on developing gross motormovement, social skills with other students, cooperative and listening skills. In the 2-5th grade class, students will learn to be comfortable performing in front of eachother and for audiences. We will also develop our own collaborative performance, open tofamily friends on the last day of class. Ballet can benefit anyone and any athlete! It improves your balance, flexibility, strength,and endurance. Ballet also develops the brain in ways other sports don't.
