June is here and so are the rains. For others it's early summer. This month we ask you to save a particular date, June 21st, which is the date for the festival of music. Organised for the first time in France in 1982, this festival is celebrated in over 120 countries worldwide.

This year, Alliance Française will host the World Music festival Ghana with Big Shots and Wind Africa to name but a few of the acts. There will also be music at the Golden Tulip Hotel on the 24th of June when New Orleans trumpeter cum vocalist Abraham Wilson will be accompanied by Ghanaian drummer extraordinaire Frank Kessi. Long live live music in Ghana.

It is not all about music in June. We meet Kalsoume SINARE BAFFOE, a popular Ghanaian actress who is not just in the top ten of Ghallywood or Nollywood but has also featured in Bollywood movies. We invite you to discover Kalsoume’s profile as we focus our lens on the great stars of the Ghanaian cinema.

To complete the trilogy, we bring you the enigmatic artist, Amarkine Amarteifio, who has been painting for over 26 years and is inspired by arts and philosophy.

hen I decided to write about form, I immediately thought that I would focus on proper form during training. Then I

realized that the position that I was in whilst I was typing was poor. I know better than to sit on my bed, with rounded shoulders, and a slouched back. As soon as I realized the irony, I picked up my laptop and travelled to my desk.

The truth is there is nothing that we do in life where good posture isn’t recommended. Life is a series of repetitive movements that impact the way that we present ourselves.

How do you want the world to see you?Here are a few of the most common bad postural habits, how they affect the body, and ways to correct them.

The Laptop Position. The laptop gave people the freedom to work on their computer anywhere. This causes people to slouch. Try to sit at desk or table to decrease the distance between the laptop and your face. If you choose not to sit at the table, place a huge pillow or book under the laptop to give you extra height. This will also prevent circulatory issues in your legs from developing due to the heat from the computer.

Weight Lifting Position. One of the problems with using machines to weight lift is that it can easily hide muscle weaknesses. I prefer people to use free weights and to work out with a partner. Both of these will allow you to feel if your body is weaker in one area. For example, if you use a shoulder press machine, you may not realize that one shoulder may be higher than the other or doesn’t move in the preferred direction. Whereas if you are using free weight or have someone watching, you would be more aware that the joint is restricted and be more likely to take caution or try to correct it.

Wallet In The Back Pant Pocket. Everyone loves a thick wallet, except your hip. If you place the wallet in your back pocket and sit on it, there is an automatic posture change in your hips and low back. This causes the support muscles to be more engaged on one side compared to the other. Many men discover that taking their wallet out of the back pocket and placing it in the front pocket decreases the hip and low back pain.

Sitting All Day. One thing I liked at my school was the tall desks at the back of the classrooms. You were encouraged to use them if you needed to stand and stretch. My school recognized that the body was made to move and being in one position 7 – 8 hours can cause all sorts of aches. Try to take a 5 minute stretch break every hour.

The Value of Proper FormSporting Activities. If you love to play golf, tennis or any sport, chances are you have a personal technique or style that you use often. For example, you may always swing the golf club with your right or kick the ball with your left. Even though this may be habitual, the body has to compromise your center of gravity which provides for your stability. This is why the professional athletes are coached, to utilize both arms and legs equally. Drills and exercises are designed to develop coordination and balance. You can accomplish this by dedicating more time (5-10 minutes) to your non-dominating limb with your preferred sports.

The lesson for the day is balance. We all have areas that need improvement. Try to single out your areas

so you can reap the long term benefits of optimal health.

IWA ORGANIZES BREASTCancer Awareness Brunch

he Indian Women's Association held their annual brunch to raise awareness of breast cancer at the Labadi Beach

hotel on the 13 May.

Participants played games, enjoyed music and other forms of entertainment and listened to a number of moving experiences shared by breast cancer survivors. A great fun brunch, ably mc'ed by Mehek Mohinani, with fabulous food from Chef Gary at the hotel. It is definitely a date to be put in the diary again for next year.

charity match that was held at Ohene Djan Stadium. Soccer fans, socialites and stars of Ghana’s entertainment industry thronged the entertainment centre in anticipation of meeting some of the international stars that had thrilled them on the soccer field earlier in the day.

Michael Essien captained an Africa XI side against a select World XI side led by England defender Ashley Cole in a charity game on the 25th May 2011. The game was aimed at helping to promote peace in Africa and formed part of Michael Essien's commitment to raising awareness of peace on the continent via football.

High School and graduating in 1985. At school she was a higly regarded athlete with successess in 100/200/400 metres and high jump.

Married to a renowned international footballer, Tony Baffoe, and blessed with 3 lovely children she is also a multi talented personality with acting, production and modelling credits to her name.

Kalsoume began her acting career during her youth. Her first theatre performance was with Democratic Youth in 1984. Her first movie was Mote in the Eye, directed by Emery Brown.

She has also produced 3 movies , two out of the three movies are Calamity and Tro-Tro, and worked with Nigerian Film Directors lincluding Frank Raja, Phil Bernard and Pascale Amanfo.

She has featured in several movies, just to mention a few

more spacious than it looks, and I was quite excited about that.

In fact the Logan is full of hidden surprises. Ghana’s roads are very

rough, but unlike my previous car the Logan has seats that relieve pressure on your back, so driving it is actually pretty comfortable, even on a bad road. The Logan also sits high off the ground, so when there are potholes in the road you don’t feel the bumps as much as in other vehicles. Can you imagine another modestly priced car feeling that solid? I think test driving a Logan will change people’s minds and their perception of Renault. Driving mine these past several months has certainly helped to change my mind. This is what I call “value for money.”

Before I bought my Logan I actually thought I could only afford a second-hand car. I only hope I can keep it running like new over the coming 3 or so years, after all, that’s how long the guarantee lasts. Luckily I hear that the after-sales service at CFAO Motors is quick and painless, so I know that if anything

should go wrong with my car, I’ll easily find a professional helping hand.

Overall, if I needed a new car at this very moment, I’d go for a Logan again. It’s easy to manoeuvre and control and being able to relax in my car makes me feel extra safe. And the best part of it all is, not only did I get a brand new car at the price of a second-hand motor, but it also consumes less fuel than my previous car.

Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water as per the instructions on the packet. Drain and toss with the milk in a large bowl; set aside.

Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Discard all but 3 tablespoons of oil from the pan. Add the tomatoes, thyme and garlic to the pan and toss until warmed through; season with salt and pepper. Crumble the bacon into bite-size pieces; set aside 1/4 cup for garnish. Toss the remaining bacon and the tomato mixture with the pasta.

Mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and 3 tablespoons chives with the pasta until evenly combined. Season with salt and pepper. Add the lettuce; toss again to coat. Garnish with the reserved bacon and the remaining 1 tablespoon chives. Serve at room temperature.

Dissolve 1/2 cup honey in 1/2 cup boiling water. Let cool, then pour into a pitcher; add the juice of 2 lemons, 2 cups apricot nectar and 1 cup vodka, if desired. Chill. Add a bottle of sparkling apple juice to the pitcher. Serve over ice with lemon slices.

Vlisco launched its new collection ‘DAZZLING GRAPHICS’, at a fashion show held at the Alisa Hotel on the 20th May. Designers for the fashion show were required to interpret the dazzling Graphic Concept in to great outfits.

The guests were treated to cocktails before the show which started with an exhibition of the Dazzling Graphics collection and guests had the opportunity to network with the designers. The event was organized to give a platform to Ghanaian designers and to help in developing the fashion industry in Ghana.

pursued his Masters Degree in African Art History in the same institution Art for him is a way of life. He thinks without art, the human spirit degenerates and society becomes prosaic. Amarkine has been painting for more than 26 years, during which time he has inspired many both through his art and his profound philosophy. During this period, his repertoire has spanned almost all the stylistic schools of modern art. Over the years, he has refused to be confined to a particular style or subject matter. This eclectic approach to art and life makes him both versatile and enigmatic. He has had several shows both at home and abroad. In 1998, he was the guest artist from Africa at the Indiana Black Expo "AFRICA CELEBRATION",USA. His works have been widely collected at home and abroad, adorning both private homes and offices.
