1. Object (in Active sentences) Subject (in Passive sentences)

Lấy tân ngữ của câu chủ động làm chủngữ của câu bị động.

Ex: My father built the house.

The house was built by my father.

Nếu động từ chủ động có 2 tân ngữ thì 1 trong 2 tân ngữ có thể làm chủ ngữ

câu bị động. Tuy nhiên tân ngữ về ngườiđược sử dụng nhiều hơn.

Ex: I’m writting her a letter.

She is being written a letter.

A letter is bein written to her.



2. Verbs in the Passive sentences

Công thức chung:

3.Subject (in Active sentences) by +Object (in Passive sentences)

Ex: Smoke filled the room.

-> The room was filled with smoke.

Ex: My mother made this cake-> This cake was made by my mother

.* Me, you, him, them,,people, someone,…. Thườngđược bỏ trong câu bị động nếu không muốn nêu rõtác nhân.

Ex: Someone has sent me the flowers.-> I have been sent the flowers.

* Nếu tân ngữ trong câu bị động chỉ sự vật , sự việc thì ta

dùng giới từ with hay by trước tân ngữ ấy.



4. Adverbs

- Trạng từ/ trạng ngữ chỉ nơi chốn đứngtrước by + tân ngữ bị động

Ex: The police found him in the forest.He was found in the forest by the police.

- Trạng từ/ trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian đứngsau by + tân ngữ bị động

Ex: My parents are going to buy a cartomorrow.

A car is going to be bought by my parentstomorrow.



KINDS OF SPECIAL PASSIVE

SENTENCES



1. Causative form: HAVE,

GET

Active: S + HAVE + O ( person) + V + O

-> Passive: S + HAVE + O (thing) + VPII ( + by + O (person) )

Ex: I had him repair my bike yesterday.-> I had my bike repaired yesterday.

Active: S + GET+ O ( person) + to V + O

-> Passive: S + GET + O (thing) + VPII ( + by + O (person) )

Ex: I get her to make some coffee.-> I get some coffee made



2. Verbs of perception: see, watch,

hear, look,…. Active: S + verbs + O + V/ V-ing + ...

-> Passive: S + be + VPII + to V/ V-ing +……

Ex: They saw her come in.-> She was seen to come in

They saw the lorry running down the hill.-> The lorry was seen running down the hill.



3. Verbs of opinion: say, think,believe, report,….

• Active: S + verb + (that) + clause (S2 + V2 + O2+…)

PassiveIt + be + VPII + (that) + clause

S2 + be + VPII + to V…/ have + VPII

Ex: People say that he is a famous doctor.-> It is said that he is a famous doctor.-> He is said to be a famous doctor.

They thought that Mary had gone away.->It was thought that Mary had gone away.-> Mary was thought to have gone away



4. Imperative sentences

• Active: V + O + adjunct• Passive: Let + O + be + VPII + adjunct.

Ex: Write your name here.

-> Let your name be written here

Active: (S) + let +sb + do +sthPassive: S + be + let/allowed + to V

Ex: He let me go out.-> I was let/ allowed to go out.
